Tihs one's in my backyard. The Swift plant in Texas is only 10 minutes from my town. We've been advised by local news to be keeping our vehicles and houses locked, due to those who will be attempting to run.
Federal agents carrying up to 100 pairs of handcuffs have entered the Swift & Co. beef packing plant in Greeley, the Greeley Tribune reports this morning.
Two large white buses, a few white vans and other buses are parked in the back of the building.
U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents are executing warrants to arrest illegal immigrants at the Swift plants in Nebraska, Texas, Utah, Iowa and Minnesota, in addition to Greeley.
Barbara Gonzalez, an ICE public affairs officer, told the newspaper there probably won't be a number on how many people were arrested until tomorrow.
She said Swift isn't facing charges at the present time.
"At this point, a civil search warrant allows us to search the premises to find any illegal aliens. The strong point here is that a lot of U.S. citizens and U.S. residents have been victimized ... by a large scale identify theft scheme," Gonzalez said.

Every little bit helps...every small effort to show these people we mean business and get them out of the country is ok with me. I'm willing to pay more for everything...if it means jobs for US citizens and available services for US citizens.

You know, the sad thing about all this is that as the problem festers, more and more people become polarized, and at some point, things explode. If only problems could be addressed promptly in a more intelligent, thoughtful, and realistic way, things wouldn't have to get out of control. But expecting people, in general, to manage their affairs that way is just wishful thinking. The best predictor of the future is, unfortunately, the past.

They've opened the highway back up, finally. Hubby was in Dumas this morning when the National Guard came through. They shut down the main street through town to allow for all the vehicles.
My fudge is safe, haha, haven't got to make it yet. Been doing the truffle centers, since mom and I called it quits last night after 2 hours of dipping the others. :wah:

I'm sorry. Each of those sentences taken separately make some sense, but together .... what point are you trying to make?

This is the statement from the company, Swift,
“They have never condoned the employment of unauthorized workers, nor have they ever knowingly hired them.”
They believe Tuesday's raids violate the agreements associated with the company's participation in the Government's Basic Pilot Worker Program.
The company said they raise serious questions as to the Government's possible violation of workers' civil rights.

These raids weren't so much about illegal immigration alone. They were looking for the ones who were using stolen identies.

I agree that it seems like bailing water before you've plugged the leak, but these job opportunities are what are luring the criminal aliens. We need to concentrate on stemming the flow. We can build a wall that they can climb, break through, or dig under, or we can shut down the money.
We need to make it unprofitable to hire criminal aliens, and to be criminal aliens. The more people that flow across our borders, the easier it will be for a terrorist to hide among them.
