Would you rather be happy or right?

Post by zinkyusa »

One thing I have been learning in my time here on the forum is that I really like some of the people I have argued with the most. Even when I lose my temper and go away and come back later. There are some hot button issues for me that due to my life experiences that I am finding I have great difficulty not getting emotionally involved with. When they arise I have to ask myself would I rather be happy or right? Would I rather try and find some small area of compromise or agreement and make a friend, or defend a point to the extreme and hurt someone? I have not answered this question yet to my satisfaction but I have learned I do not like the way it makes ME feel when I hurt someones feelings even if I feel like I have "proven a point".

I try to stay happy at all times, I did come across upset before on here, and of course, hard to see the smile through the computer...Sometimes we are just mis-understood!

I have a nice time here and when I see something said that I don't agree with, honestly I don't respond. I would not like to be known to have hurt someones feelings...I'm very sensitive to that...and if I did would be very quick to apologize!!

I will take happy any day too. Even if it means I walk away and leave the hot issues alone.

I would prefer to be happy, but I do realise there are times when you have to speak your mind. I think it is important to be assertive with people when the need arises, but sometimes it pays to be a little tactful. The thing that annoys me most about arguments i n forums is not the arguing itself, it's when people don't respect the rights of other people, i.e: the right to their own opinion. :)

It takes a lot to really P&ss me off because I'm quite an easy going sort of guy. Just don't deny me my right to my own opinion. :):wah:

I think you have to judge each instance on it's own merits for example does keeping a friendship mean more to you than the point you disagree on or do you feel so passionately about an issue that the friendship is secondary.

I do not like the way it makes ME feel when I hurt someones feelings even if I feel like I have "proven a point".

I feel that we only get to that point in our lives once we have experienced some of life's ups and downs, when I was younger proving the point was far more important that another's feelings. Only with maturity have I come to realise that a lot of these disagreements really don't matter that much after all but I often find that I have a sore tongue from biting it!

I refuse to be bullied and belittled . What i have to say is what i have to say whether it pleases the masses or not .. I also believe that having different opinions doesn't mean you have to be enemy's - i wouldn't hate somebody just because their view was different to mine :-6

edited to add = being right would make me happy so being right would make me happy ;)

Oh of course id prefer to be happy but if i feel strongly about a subject ill give my honest opinion, not to offend anyone just to add my 2 cents to the pot, but i also hope that grudges arent held because i may have an opinion on something and choose to voice it.

We all do after all and we cant agree on everything can we? :)

I would rather be happy than right. I respect the differences in opinons on religion, politics, and alot of other subjects. i tend to not post on those threads because i enjoy reading all the facts and diff opions but i dont have the urge to prove a point. Being different is not the definition of being wrong. The people i usually enjoy the most in real life are the ones who can state what they think and listen to what i think and not argue about which is right. who cares. I dont.:)

Happy is good ..:D I don't tie my happiness to being right in a discussion, or wrong. I choose to be happy either way. If you choose not to be happy because you maybe wrong about something your not going to ever be happy. Doesn't equate for me.

Definately happy. On the rare ocassion that I have gotten hot under the collar.... Ive always regreted it... tried to appease my self by knowing I was right. But so what?? And like you I do have tremendous affection for the few members who have annoyed me from time to time. Id like them to know that.

I just this morning discovered wonderful talent in a member who has been here for a long time. I never took the time to get to know her. Live and learn

Great question, Zinkmeister :)

As you would expect of me, I'd much rather be happy than right.

I prefer to be happy. Sometimes it is difficult though when another person insists on having their own way totally. Gotta speak up then and be heard.:-6

right, there is no point in taking it personally. i prefer the strong minded as long as they aren't trying to make me think their way. i really like the fact that you say what you think pink. you are one of my favs.:)

I prefer people to just say what they mean too.

It's just the way I am, what you see is what you get!

At the same time I'd hate to think I've upset someone...when that's been the case I try and make amends.

I think being happy is great but I'd rather not be ignorent.

I don't mind being proven wrong at all though for the most part. I care more about finding the truth then being the one in the conversation who has it.

So... happy. Right is for a crusade that I'm not on.
