What do you think about the age gap between couples . Does it work . What i don't get is..... why is it deemed the norm to have a young girl and much older guy but frowned upon a relationship between an older woman and younger guy

. And for the record ive tryed both . What do you think

I think it's an individual thing really. I had good friends who were 10 years apart, she older than he, and they have one of the best marriages I've ever seen.
I think it would be wierd to have a husband/bf much younger than me, but probably just because of what "popular opinion" says.

My first partner had not grown up yet, he seemed quite childish in his ways and I don't think he was mature enough to start out on his own yet. My present partner is more grown up and is the doting and caring man that I could ever wish for.
I've never tried anyone who is younger than me, I have always viewed younger men as a child still trying to grow up but I could be wrong.
I would have to agree with that . I always went for the older man, even at 19 i was living with a guy 13 years my senior and its only now at 37 that my other half is a couple of years younger than me

What i don't get are the really big age gaps like a 30 year old marrying an 76 year old - that to me is pretty sick.

I always think they must be rich . What would a 20/30 yearold have in common with a 70/80 yearold - you do hear the stories all the time .

I think i'd have trouble getting past his wrinkled 80 yearold face never mind his wrinkled dinkie winkie

I think the father figure thing is very valid - I know of a 16 year old girl with an absent father who has had a boyfriend 13 years older and is now with a man 20 years older.
My husband is 10 years older than me, I have always found older men to be more confident and less into playing games. Men my own age (when I was younger) just didn't appeal - they were too busy growing up and I was already there!!

More often than not, when there's such a huge age difference, it just likely a Sugar Daddy, "or" Sugar Mama thing!!! :wah:

Well i prefer older men tbh, ive had both though my last bf was 22 to my 30, not a huge diff but suprisingly enough i felt a bit weird in the end and had to end it.
I always felt a bit icky and a bit like a cradle snatcher for some reason....
Thing is he was more mature (in some ways) than some of the older blokes ive been out with and contrary to my former beliefs wayyyy better in bed! there's a lot to be said for younger men trust me! but having said that i still do prefer older men and it always seems more acceptable somehow when its an older bloke with a younger girl who knows why, but its the same as the height debate isnt it, it always seems more acceptable when the bloke is taller than the girl...

The success of the relationship really boils down to how well you get on with your mate. Society will always have certain boundries but like all things those evolve too. The greater the age difference the more people will have opinions about it.
As long as your happy sod the rest.

I agree, and as long as your thick skinned enough to ignore the remarks (there's always somebody with an opinion) then good luck to you.

I always found that being with the older guy was more about him looking good with a large breasted blonde on his arm - more of an ego boost .

I have to admit if my mother got herself a boy toy i would hate it ....sad eh

I always found guys / men my own age needed to grow up. I tried my own age, didn't work . I prefer a man older than me.
Women with men alot older need to remember the age gap may not matter now but later is different.
As far as comments - it's no ones business and shouldn't bother anyone else.
If theres a 24 yr old women with a 58 yr old man - trophy -mid life crisis- what ever the label - live and learn on your own.

I've always gone for older guys. I dated a 44 year old when I was 20. Older men are nicer and they treat you with greater caring and respect. They care about more than just a quick roll in the hay. :wah:
Strange though, that I have always gone for older dark-haired, brown-eyed men and yet the one I chose to settle down with is a blue-eyed blonde who is 2 years younger than me.

generally they do rapunzel but there's also the older blokes who reckon they can act like young blokes and end up being total arseholes...can i say that?
but then again dont men mature later than us gals anyway? explains a lot...

I've always heard that, and perhaps that does have something to do with it. I always find, like others have said, that men my age aren't all that mature, although that does change as we grow older too.

i noticed i am attracted to older men. at my age ,43, i would rather not date a man who has kids he is still raising. i have watched too many relationships flounder. i am almost through with mine and would rather not do kids anymore.

Sooooo, are you saying that a 30 year old can really love a "76" year old as a partner, as was implied in an earlier post? :-2 After a person is say in their 20's, IMO a 10, 15 even 20 year age difference is seemingly more reasonable.

I have been at both ends of the equation.. neither worked that well. But my sister in law is 14 years younger than my brother, and they have been married over 20 years and get on OK.
