In certain cases, due to illness, sometimes the other partner does not have an interest in sex.

How long do you do it?

As long as he lives, I am happy enough he is alive. Some things are more important than sex.

Depends on several things.

One being an individual's idea of their vows, if any were taken, and their personal limits.

I won't comment on your friend, I'll just give my own answer.

If my man is ill or crippled, then I stay. In this case, I would stay even for schizophrenia, as it is an illness and as long as I wasn't in personal danger, in sickness and in health. I have personal experience with mental health issues so this one is easy for me to answer.

That's my own answer to the situation you posed, Gup. I do understand personal happiness but I also know there must be some strength to the fabric of a union, whether marriage or unmarried commitment.

If someone was just uninterested in me physically with no health issues involved, just didn't desire me, then I would split.

I am one who does not feel it would be a deal breaker for us.

I cannot say we would never break up, but I do not think intimacy would be the issue. I mean if you mean sex, then definatly a non issue. In fact we are most compatable as neither have a huge interest in it.

We hug, and touch, and are close in other ways.

let me fill in more of the picture. he got totally paranoid. started carrying a shotgun around the house to scare off would be burgulars. annointed all the doorways against evil spirits, slept in a sleeping bag because he claimed the gbi had put poison in his bed. wouldn't eat anything unless somebody tasted it first. (afraid it was poisoned) set bear traps on the decks and porches. i almost got caught by one one night. didn't see it and stepped on it. :-5 he took the doors off the hinges so nobody could hide behind them. kept the floodlights on all night so he could see outside. .....it was bizarre. my friend had had breast cancer years before and he started claiming it was never true and the government made her think that. he also started picking up young girls out of town. he is now hiv positive. thank god she left when she did. he never admitted to his sexual escapades untill long after she was gone. for some reason he got it in his head if he picked up random women then the governement couldn't get to him. He even got to the point where he didn't trust me. thought i was working for the government to frame him. the last timei went in the house i looked up and saw a squirrel looking down at me from a gunshot blast he had shot the night before because he claimed the government had spies on the roof.

you never know what you will do untill you are faced with it.........

I understand that he was (is) ill and that it's the messed-up brain causing him to do this stuff. It sounds like a dang sad situation. I really didn't want to comment specifically on your friend, Gup as that makes it personal but I'm not going to say anything bad so I guess I will.

I see danger here, obviously. I had said earlier something about leaving if a person was in danger. Bear traps and guns, no good. And after a point, scary ideas in one's mind, no good.

I suppose this could fall under "okay" because in the way of mental capacity, he is no longer the person she married...that's a deal breaker. Even if it is not his fault. I would leave if my husband were randonly shooting things around the house that may be me one day, or if he was getting sex elsewhere, (even if he didn't realize what he was doing) as that for me is the number one deal breaker.

Ok, so those are things *I* would bail out for.

I don't really see this as an issue of no intimacy or sex, because the guy's ill. I see it, the way you presented it, as an issue of the woman protecting herself. If we were just talking occasional random weird ideas or beingbumme dout all the time, I'd feel different, but I don't think staying in a dangerous situation is good.

Am I rambling again? I just woke up. :o

Also wanted to say, that I can understand the kids' view too. I'm not saying it's right but I am able to understand.

i agree with Flop....guns and HIV...equal a danger to himself and others and intervention is needed.
