Not sure if this one's in the right section or not...I'm sure someone will move it if not.

This one might be new or maybe not, but I've never seen it before. It's not the usual "please verify your billing information" thing, either. It's a little more subtle than that. The note I got looked like the eBay screen, had all the bells and whistles, even the link to click on if you get a scam email, har-de-har. It was supposedly a question from another member. This other member was inquiring about the laptop, and had noticed that I wasn't a registered user, and was wondering how to protect himself from scams (oh, the irony).

There's only one problem.

I've never in my life even owned a laptop, let alone sold one on eBay.

I will bet this week's paltry paycheck that, had I clicked on one of those links in a fervent bid to prove that yes, I was indeed a registered eBay member (I am), I would have been asked for screenname and password at the very least, thereby providing an access to someone out there. Just FYI, I didn't - I opened a new browser window, went to eBay, got their fraud email address (it's Spoof@eBay.com, just in case anyone needs it), and forwarded the message without clicking on anything. But it was a close thing there for a second.

So...just a heads-up. Be aware. Be safe.

yup, i've gotten those. another technique is they send you an inquiry, blind, asking if you take paypal for payment. anyone who is actively selling items on ebay isn't going to bat an eyelash at that, they'll just say yes. but it's a way of gathering active member ID's, so they can spam you later. i occasionally sell things on ebay, but will usually go months between sales - so when i got an inquiry as to whether i took paypal - with nothing at all up for auction on ebay in months - i knew someone was pulling my chain.

I was going to auction off FG on e bay but then I thought hey :yh_idea maybe I can get more for individual members. I started off with sneezerooni. My 1st mistake was not having a reserve, I ended up getting only $7.00 for her from some guy in Denmark. Next up is anasasafras, Im starting bidding at $39.00 plus shipping. Im mtkaedge if anyone is interested.

My solution would be to buy a new toothbrush. (But then my toothbrush is a manual drive, not an automatic with cruise control!) :wah:

The mouth is full of bacteria, so after brushing its all left there. Kinda gross. I run a tight ship hygenically speaking. :-3

Unfortunately, doing that can "verify" to the originator that your e-mail address

is valid, if you use Outlook.... however, personally I don't think that that makes

much difference, it's worth reporting this sort of thing!

there's nothing in the steps reported that would verify to the originator her email address. period.
