I love stories like this, the potential for this tecnology is massive. I bet a pound to a penny though you'll not hear of this for years now, the military with take over and the idea of being able to sneak out from work and go for a sneaky glass of wine or beer or two will sadly be lost....:(

Katy, I saw this on the news this morning too! :D

I think it's a great idea! :)

I think it's amazing that Star Trek theories formed the basis for much of the modern technology we have today. as boffins tried to invent the futuristic devices they saw on Star Trek!

Now we have Harry Potter theories becoming fact!

There are even picture frames you can now buy, which you can put a moving clip of film into - so it looks like a Harry Potter-style "moving picture"!

Or they can fade from one still into another - much like six's FG video! :D

This must be the way to view our photographic memories in the future! :)

It certainly sounds like some good research, though its only microvaves and not visible light that they are able to "cloak" so I wouldn't get too excited about becoming invisible yet. Its also only in 2 dimensions and not 3 so again, not completely brilliant. Still, one a technological prinicpal has been determined, its often the case that breakthroughs come relatively quickly after that so you never know. I would predict that this technology would be used mostly for military applications, and also to hide speed cameras, so perhaps we shoudn't be so happy.

I agree, the principle is in place, technology just needs to catch up with the mathematics. I just think that we'll hear no more about it for a good few years.:(

This comes from the article =

But making an object vanish before a person's eyes is still the stuff of science fiction - for now.

I don't think you'll see (ha...not see) people sneaking up and peeking on you, not in our lifetime...not ever I hope. Nobody would be safe.:wah:

Soccer and other football-type games might be interesting if each side was allowed to have one invisible player though wouldn't they.

How would it look if two invisible players were crashing into one another? :wah: Would they have to play in the nude? :sneaky:

Having invisible cars would be great until someone crashed into you, pedestrians would have to be careful too. Hmmn.

I dunno, maybe you could just paint their numbers on their backs to make it interesting? My other suggestion is that you give one other player on either team a rocket pack, good for going up the wings.

Come to think of it, how would we know which side had scored?

it wouldn't matter as long as the ball was in the net, unless you made the ball invisible as well, hold on this is getting ridiculous, I say we ban invisibility before it ruins the Champions League.

Hamster wrote: Interesting concept.....how would you suggest you could impose the offside rule in this case???

As in..."he's offside".... "no he's not"....."look you can clearly see that he is....um er no you cant see him......oh bugger is it half time yet? I need my pie and cup of tea..."

Do you see where I am going with this??

See, it would be interesting. "he's just passed it back to the goalie", "oh no, the goalie has collapsed clutching his groin, and the balls flying into the net", "someone's punched the referee, and set fire to the linesman".

I think it would be great.

I'd LOVE to "go there!" I've got a long list of people who'd never have a good night's sleep again....:sneaky: And just THINK of the fun we could have flying free on airplanes! Pinching bums on streets and watching the mayhem which would result! Unzipping BUSH & BLAIR'S flies as they're making speeches! :sneaky:
