What's With The Total Lock Down?

Is it really a good idea to have every board locked if you are not a member/logged in?
I know people can read the first post on the home page, but what about the replies. Seeing some of the boards allows people to see what it's all about.
Personally I don't think I'd want to join a forum that was all locked down, and it's very unfriendly which seems to go against the Gardens ethos

Hi Letha,
We certainly aren't trying to be unfriendly! We would, however, like those who spend time on the forums reading to register and get involved. A community involves participation. Our job is to encourage that.
And don't despair! This is planned to be a temporary thing. We'll evaluate this new "register-to-read" setup this week and go from there.

I'm not saying unlock all of it, just one or two of the general boards so people get a better idea.
The introduction one might be nice so people can see we are friendly.

Your idea is right on the mark! This is exactly what we are working on.
