Are old vinyl L.P.s worth anything nowadays? I have been carrying mine around every time I move house but this time, I won't. I thought of giving them to a charity shop and I've left it so late that I probably still will. But just thought I'd check that I haven't got any that are worth more than a pound or so...

Wish I had, Val...

I haven't been able to get rid of them before because of a sort of nostalgia, going back to the early 70s. But the time has now come, and off they must go. I just wanted to check that I wasn't sitting on an amazing fortune ;)

You could also sell them on e-bay, if you want to get rid of them.

Gosh, we have boxes of vinyl records, and 8 tracks too....................

I have many many many. Several things to look for as mentioned.

Condition is everything. The White Album is always in demand as mentioned and several sources for research. I just got on line so I haven't had time to dig up my info. Beatles are number 1 - Elvis and even Frank Sinatra all depends on alot ??

I would research the LP'S before donating. If you have LP's from a record club / christmas music go ahead and donate it. I collect alot of things, I'm no expert on LP's definetly research. I'll look in some of my books.

Thanks everyone...I've checked out that site, Arnie, and I don't think mine would be worth the hassle of selling, well maybe if I wanted to take them with me and then sell them...but nothing of great value, I don't think. Yes, Chons, ebay would be an outlet but I really don't know much about selling on their (or buying!). And thanks, Patsy

I gave all mine to the charity shop.....even the Barry manilow collection that had never been opened / played. :D

I looked on the internet but it didn't seem worth the hassle selling stuff. Car boot sales are a great way of getting rid of stuff for a few bob...people seem to buy ANYTHING there....

Thanks for the informative pm, Clancy, at least I now know I'm not getting rid of my pension!!

...I've decided that, like Bez, I'm taking them all down to Oxfam tomorrow.

Remember the Rolling STones LP with the cover that had the front of a mans pelvis in jeans and no shirt? And it had a real zipper on it? Well, 10 years ago, if it was still in its plastic sleave and in good condition you could bet about $3000 USD for it. Id keep em. THey are probably worth ALOT all together.

The unsuspecting charity shop gott'em .......they were gone a couple of weeks later....unless they 'skipped' them of course. I was sorry to get rid of '2am Paradise Cafe' though.

Oxfam don't do records!! So they're still all in the boot of my car...is that an omen or just a pain in the rear?

Oh the shame!!! :o :-5

I wondered what you were up to when you disappeared for half an hour...and it was strange when I was sorting through the records...the dust on Bucks Fizz had recently been disturbed...but, well done, you resisted...or was it that you couldn't easily sneak it into your bag? :sneaky:

Here you can usually trade vinyl for used cd's. Find some music you like or experiment with the unknown.
