ATM Gives Out More Than It Should -------------

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A gas station ATM was reprogrammed to

give out four times as much money as it should. Police are

now on the lookout for the man behind the operation. The man

was caught on tape swiping an ATM card and punching in a

series of numbers that broke the machine's security code.

The ATM was reprogrammed to show only a $5 debit to his

account, even though it disbursed $20 bills. Police are not

sure of the identity of the man behind the theft since the

card he used was prepaid and can be purchased at several

locations. No one noticed (or said anything) until nine days

later, when a customer told the clerk that the machine was

giving out more money than it should.

Would you keep it as 'found' money?

Would you go back the next day?:wah:

What if it were a live teller who gave you to much?

Or at a restaurant or store?

Interesting ethics question. Personally, I think I would be more apt to keep the money if I got it from the ATM than from a cashier. I am just speaking as a former cashier, at a place where you were written up if your drawer was more than$5.00 over or short. Plus after so many write ups, you could loose your job.

How does that work, then? You can buy an ATM card? I've never heard of that.

Presumably a TravelMoney card - you buy it a home prefilled with a given value and can then use it to draw down the cash. Useful if you have no card baring account and you're going overseas.
