I am not sure I am looking for advice here, just a place to vent. I went to sign onto my laptop at the kitchen table, where I usually set it up. Kept getting a thing saying "The modem appears to be in use by another program". Now, I had no other programs in use, had just booted up the computer. Tried several times, even tried reinstalling the modem. No dice. So, I bring the computer to another phone jack in the house, plug it in using a different line, and here I am. So I am not sure if it is just the phone cord or what.

I had been working earlier with a new software program, before I shut down earlier. But I was not using the modem then. All I know is that when I tried to shut down the computer, it all froze up on me and I had to do the forced shut down..which I hate doing.

Oh well. Hope all the bugs are out now.

Thanks for the hugs, Cher. The good wishes seemed to have worked. I plugged it in to the original line that did not work, and now it is fine. I just reinstalled the modem.
