but what is about men and floral decor.
I've married now for 10 years. When we were first married, I had these wonderful visions of how I was going to decorate our home. Boy was I wrong, Dave actually wanted a say in what we decorated with. He wanted a total southwest theme throughout the house. Yuck. But as to not rock the boat I went with it. It wasn't lke we had a whole lot to work with anyways. We were both going to college and working. Our furniture consisted of hand-me downs and a ugly 70's harvest gold 7ft couch. He actually paid money for this couch, when it should of been taken to field and used for a bonfire.
So fast forward now 10 years, I've taken over the living room with my love of old English country style. He hasn't said much. Now I'm wanting to redo our bedroom. Our bedding is a few years old, and after a few kids it has a few stains. So I've been online shopping for a new bedding set. And my taste leans toward floral prints. Now I'm not talking the loud in your face floral. But the soft femine floral, like shabby chic. David has vetoed everything I've picked out so far. He refuses to sleep under anything floral. I don't understand this since all he's gonna be doing is sleeping. It's not like he's going to get girlie cooties or something. Now I must also tell you David is colorblind. He sees browns and greens in reverse. He also has some trouble with reds and oranges. So when I've asked for him to pick out one he likes, it's usually something really bright and ugly.
I'm beginning to think the folks of the olden days had it right with seperate bedrooms.
So am I alone with my battle of home decor?

Oh you are so not alone. I also know all about dealing with the colorblindness. Our livingroom is southwestern, our rec room is southwestern, our bedroom is Pittsburgh Steelers. I want to add on a room of my very own.:-5

Oh, yeah, I'm there. My ex would NOT put color on a wall to save his life. White. Or beige. Or maybe we'll get really wild and go with cream. Yowza.
Boyohboy, was I glad to get into my own house. There is not a white wall to be seen in this place. My living room is this gorgeous buttery yellow, white sheer curtains, beautiful old original hardwood floors, and denim blue furniture. My kitchen is exactly the same color as my favorite terra-cotta flowerpot, with tile floors that look like slate, and a tile backsplash that looks like unbleached linen. Sea-green and bright blue in the bathroom....my son's room is blue...my room is sage green and eggplant purple.
Yeah, there are advantages to being single

I always let my wife choose. That way it's not my fault when it's horribly wrong.
Apart from that my attention span for choosing bed linen is about 10 seconds, best approach is the non commital inarticulate grunt, after a while she takes the hint and doesn't bother me and just buys what she wants.

You've only been married 10 years and you've forgotten how to get your way??
1. Get him horney.
2. Get him to agree to let you decorate.
3. Make love (it would be cruel to just get your way).
I'm glad my beloved and I have similar tastes.

Lol! I love Shabby Chic too Sheryl!
Why not buy something beautiful for the bedroom (not bedlinen yet) and just say "Oh I saw this today and it was SO cheap I couldn't resist!" and gradually turn the bedroom into what you like!
Also, DON'T ask his opinion! Just do it! After a while he'll get used to the new stuff and probably won't even notice it!
Good Luck!

My old git could'nt care less what the house looks like he'd be quite happy sitting on orange boxs just as long as his remote control is within hands reach - Sheryl hunny the trick is to let him think its all his idea. Men are wonderful you just need to train them . Good luck

I don't have a problem with florals. I can wear pink. I can wear pink underware. I will not wear the ones with lace. It itches really bad.

I prefer a more manly look...neutral colors, huge furniture, etc. but I don't think my husband would really care too much either way....
although the Shabby Chic stuff is beautiful....

Yeah I really hate buying frozen water. Let alone bottled water. Ten fifteen years ago would you have ever thought you would be buing bottled water as much as we do now? So yes I would have definetly fixed that darn icemaker by now.

Yes it is sad that men do not like floral patterned sheets, shirts, curtains, underpants etc. I myself was outraged when an old girlfriend refused to sleep under my battlestar galactica sheets, I mean fair is fair after all. I would say go neutral creamy white, its classic, and won't go out of style.

I hit the jackpot with my love. She likes clean linear lines (Frank Loyd Wright) no flowers, no doilies, no frilly things, no lace to be seen anywhere. Our tastes compliment eachother. Sometimes she gets her way sometimes I get my way. Whatever it is though I trust her and she trusts me. The daintiest things she owns is a Swarovski collection and I think its pretty cool. Clean, warm and tasteful, thats the way we like it. Keep your doilies please.
