A woman asked me this question at the library today and I couldn't answer her..(and do I feel dumb!)

If someone has a wireless account , say in Callifornia, can they acces wireless service somewhere else, like Alaska?

Are wireless accounts similar to landline where you only have to gain internet access and can remotely access your own account?

If I understand what my brother explained to me over the weekend, then yes you can. So long as your computer is wireless capable, and you have a valid internet account on your computer.

I was able to access the internet while at my brothers house, as he has broadband. Today I tested at the library, and again, success. I am hearing that many hotels are getting wireless access to the rooms.

Yes the key is the word ACCOUNT that makes all the difference. Just having wireless card in your laptop doesn't give you wireless access. You have to have a WIRELESS ACCOUNT with a carrier then you can access it anywhere.

Sure you can cheat and access the internet on somones open unsecure account that your laptop wireless card may pick up, but you will get kicked off sooner or later..
