I commute 50 miles each way. My wife has a 8 mile commute so I guess on average we are about average.
How far do all of you commute to work?

About 3 1/2 miles each way. I could cycle, or even walk.... but at the moment, I drive. This means I get about 36 MPG (Imperial) - what do you get?

I go out to see clients so it's not a normal commute, but if I go in to the office it's 23miles each way, on a sunday it's about 40minutes to get in , pick the wrong time of day, like morning rush hour anything from an hour and a half up wards, evenings are worse two hours plus. That's why I work from home, thank goodness for technology who needsan office any more. Train is twenty minutes not counting the time waiting for the blasted thing to turn up.

Over here, in the Yook, it's not allowed. Neither is speeding when not on an emergency, either! Sometimes ambulances/police cars have been embarassingly caught on speed^H^H^H^H^afety cameras....

Edited to add: I didn't see the "not speeding" part until after I posted. Ah well. Assuming gets me nowhere. LOL
Seriously, I could not do the job you do. The police get a bad rap a lot of the time, but the things you all have to face and do for our safety every day...it blows my mind. So thank you...and have some fresh fruit instead of a donut
And be safe out there today!

My commute is 22 miles (30 minute ride) one way, not so bad. Until the nasty "New England winter weather" here sets in. We usually get many yearly Nor-Easterner Snow storms that are quite dangerous. Then the commute is in the "hours"!! (2,3, & longer) :-5

Oh woe is me... a homemaker's commute... all around the house!
At least you guys will get retirement... my job I always gotta do!!
(Don't worry, I take my "retirement" in small doses here and there!)
When I did work outside the home, I had about a 30 minute commute,
not too bad I guess.
And 1 Hip Hip Hooray to Lady Cop, she can "light me up" any time...
when you're as law-abiding as I, you don't get that sick feeling in
the pit of your stomach when you see red and blues!!

My commute isn't too bad...about 15 minutes from my home to work. Of course, if you add in the time I walk from work to class...and class to class...and class to work, the time goes up a bit

Used to commute for 45 minute to an hour each way on average when I worked in film. Any longer than that to get to a location and the film company would get the early crew hotel rooms. Even so, if you take a 14-18 hour day and add about two hours to commute then take the two hours off the 8 hours we had to go home sleep and return then do that for a month....this is one reason why I don't work in film anymore.
Now it takes 45 minutes each way on average to get to construction sites and add the loading and unloading of tools everyday. Hard to get a good days work when daycare is only 10 hours (strict) and now the light is gone by 4pm. I'll have to get a strap on head lamp. (How fun would that be!) I could make a Christmas tree coat for work and light up the site. I think what I really need is a housewife to do all the housework and dinners so I can concentrate on beating rush hour and stay til I get a good day in. Why doesn't someone pack MY lunchbox?

and time for the Garden? as a muti-tasker i communte thru the french doors to my home office. I can start the Show-time Rotisserie, have phones through-out the place, yes 2-way radios, get some laundry going, answer the phone again. my most important communte is to the Chiropractor, as i have a reverse curve in my upper back, that takes about 35 mins. 1 way, 3 times weekly for about another 6 months....

How I miss college. Back then I had not commute for work. But I did have to commute to the University and then back home to work on my dad's farm.
Really miss the farm life but we are all making more money now that we have sold the farm.

We did not totally" have" to sell. The developers offered us twice what they got when they wern't abel to push the developement through.
My Opa made quite a bit on the realestate end of farming. He sold and bought back the same farm and then sold it again. He told the developers the other developers could not get the project through. To this date I have not seen any developement on the last farm that he sold. But houses are going up all over the place here in collorado. Towns that use to have 3K are now having both a King Soopers(SP?) and a safeway croping up.
But these developers made millions on another transaction they pussed through.
We also milked about 100 head:)
