You know...you always here that people in comas have some awareness of what is going on around them...or so "they" say. You have to just wonder....

Rick is watching CNN in the other room. I just heard them announce that the condition of Isreali PM Ariel Sharon has begin to deteriorate. He has been an a coma, due to a stroke, since January. His family is at his side.

Marie, it is true. He knows they are there. And even if he cannot respond, he knows them.
My husband was semi-comatose for 3 weeks. They said he probably knew I was there. I brought in his favorite book to read for 30 minutes a day-Seutonius, Lives of the Caesars. The nurses used to laugh about it, thought I was very strange. I read on and on about Julius Caesar, and stopped at every important part to remind him of it. The poor man in the other bed, in a coma, he must have eventually woken up a history major!
He loved that book, and I had finished the first chapter and was into the second, when he started opening his eyes and listening. He knew I ws reading, and paid attention, and stayed awake for 20-30 minutes at a time. Finally one day the nurses came in to check, were amazed, and told me to keep reading, while they fixed all the gadgets he was hooked up to. It became the routine for the next 3 weeks, they would do the chores while I read, he was awake, and could look around, and be a little responsive.

Interesting Chonsi..I hear the same stuff. But I was also wondering if he is aware of what is happening in his country...and Lebanon--- not fully aware, you understand..but if people around him have talked about the world events.

Marie, I do not think he knows about the war going on. I think that would probably not be discussed in his room, but I could be wrong.
