The growing "PC" attitude I see creeping in here.
I have no patience for anything PC as most of you know, and when I see people becoming "offended" at thread titles or content, or comments and members trying to tell other members how they should post, what they should name their threads, picking apart posts and each other over assumed slights and imagined insults, well, I get a bit riled. This is a forum of good, mostly friendly people with much to share with each other. When we start getting ticked off at our friends for what we perceive to be an insulting air to anything that is written I have to start wondering: When do the massive, unchangeable censoring demands begin?
Yeah...that ticks me off a LOT.

When facts are insisted to not be facts without contrary evidence.
eg) If someone says polls show 39% of people.... then someone else says "that's bull" without showing evidence of different numbers.
I also get riled when an informative post is met only with personal labeling and the facts never get addressed.

I think the majority of posts here are made in good fun, a little pun now and then, unless it is specifically on a serious thread topic.
I think tensions rise, when certain individual(s) stir the pot, as the saying goes.
The newest tensions that have occured seem to be misunderstandings of something-let's be realistic, sometimes we say something and it perceived differently by someone from another culture/country/etc.
I do not think we do it on purpose, because if it was a real inflammatory post, it is quickly spotted by many.

Rumors. Hate rumers. Very distructive. For example "I never said your wife had a mole on her #ss. I said it felt like she had a mole on her A*&" That's just how rumors get started.

What do I see wrong with that? We are, for the most part, all on here every day. We know each other, and each other's online personalities pretty well, I think. So why, if I could inquire, do people look at a post made by someone they know and assume it's meant in an insulting way when that is not the person's M.O.???
If it were a certain recently absent (thank God) member making these posts, or the one doing the nit-picking, I could understand it, but for the love of Christ, people, we KNOW each other better than this!! Why are we all of a sudden so quick to jump on each other for this stupid crap???

Okay Guys. I've read this. I suggest that if someone had started a thread "Damn all Americans" - and then gone on to poke fun, even in the nicest way, a couple of you would have seen red. But maybe I'm wrong, perhaps we'd have all had a good natured laugh.
I don't have a PC bone in my body. But I do like fairness and think that there are times when one should speak out.
However, I am touchy and tired at the moment, I know. It's un-Aussie to spill out personal stuff in a public forum. But I am tending to walk into things, so maybe my judgement is off here too.

Perhaps we can come up with a copy/paste post that can be offered when we feel like snapping?
edit to add: not directed at any specific poster and thinking this is really a good idea.

Nothing much now...I have learnt to accept the ups and downs and the differences in cultures.......except......harping back to past hurts and conflicts. Can't see the point, life's too short to waste time on negativity and it messes up your good karma. Luckily I have only been personally attacked twice here and one person is now banned and the other an infrequent visitor. :yh_yinyan

I agree with Koan.
What makes this forum great (and the main reason it's my favorite) is that there *is* occasional tension amongst the ranks. It's an exchange of ideas and opinions, folks.

Didn't you say yourself you thought that post in the gun grabbers thread

Or how about being called ignorant and told you're going to have a nervous

I know it wasn't said by you, you misunderstand. I meant that you said
BR was offended by pretty inoffensive things, and those are 2 recent
things that I thought WERE pretty offensive. I'll go try and find what
you said about the other statement. It wasn't IN the gun grabbers
thread, it was another one where someone TOLD you what was said.

TOPIC see above
Here is an idea, let's stick to the topic and not bring forward other people, incidents or posts. Ok!!! Valid question, good debate BUT lets keep our enemies out of this.... I KNOW for a fact there are others on the garden forum who do not see eye to eye and never will and have a history of it, but guess what they are able to keep from mud slinging. Please please we need to put these topics back into perspective. Bottom Line. It grows tiring seeing the same ugliness in thread after thread.

Point taken, Minks.
Then to submit something to the topic of discussion (although greater
minds than mine tell me thread drift is quite common and even expected)
I guess I have to say: What inflames me personally is people who attack
people. In most cases, without provocation. And won't back down despite
repeated requests to do so.

Maybe you've missed what I'm referring to then, Bez. Could you point out to me where I've become offended at something someone has said and I was wrong to be offended? It takes quite a bit to tick me off, and Jives doesn't count. He was flaming and baiting purposely.
I have no problem with the "meek" (whatever that means) speaking up, what I do have a problem with is people getting all up in arms about petty stuff they should know is meant certain ways. Like I said, we all know each other here pretty good and I can't begin to understand why some get so worked up about stupid crap.

Val, I've been out for the evening, just got home which is why I'm only just replying....so
Where I have thought things were offensive I've said so eg. the remark to BR in the 'Gun grabber' thread which I didn't read in it's entirerity only the post i was pointed to. BR had every right to be offended.....and yes I DID forget I posted that response.
valerie wrote: Or how about being called ignorant and told you're going to have a nervous

I sure as heck don't.
I'm sorry but I don't recall reading this ....but it is offensive in my book.
BR...when I said that you got ticked off by inoffensive things in the past I wasn't referring to recent things, and as I can't quote what I believe I saw or paste a link, I haven't got a leg to stand on so I'll retract what i said.
If people are overly sensitive and take umbridge at words, phrases, titles, comments then so be it...."one mans meat is another mans poison" so they say but they still have the right to express how they feel.
It seems prudent to bow out now..I'm sad I've lost someones respect that I much admire....

Who's respect have you lost Bez? Certainly not mine, if that's who you mean. I just recently told someone else here that while I may not always agree with some things people say, and nothing at all others say, I always respect a person's right to say it. Disagreeing with me or what I think does not preclude my respect or friendship. I sure hope you don't mean me.

Here's my copy/paste suggestion. It is polite but to the point. Any time you find yourself aggravated and about to post emotional objection write the following and it will be a "code" message for "I'm pissed off", no response necessary.
