Wombats are fun, Carla. The adults are tough critters, nocturnal and have few predators (other than night drivers). Their butts are flat and really hard. If a dingo tries to follow one into his burrow, the wombat scuttles in and closes the hole with his butt, often crushing the skull of the dingo. Young wombats are playful like puppies, run around happily during the day too, and will chew your shoelaces, leaving them green and goooey.
Platypus's are interesting critters, and rarely seen except in captivity (when their days and nights are sometimes deliberately reversed). Shy and nocturnal in the wild. But the spur on the foot of the male is very poisonous. Can give you a mega painful wound. Neuroscientists at the uni I worked at are investigating platypus venom as a pain reliever.
As for Steve Irwin, Snooze. I think we successfully exported him to you, didn't we? Aussies tend to cringe before his ockerness. Ditto with the Croc Dundee bloke who sold out and is now in Hollywood, where his face has amazingly lost all its craggy character lines.
I rather like Santa in the billabong, Chonsi. Grin.
