I may have been ten when I heard the Welsh version of that, predicated on the (quite possible) village where so many of the men are called Evans that they're distinguished locally in casual conversation by their profession - Evans the Milk, Evans the Post, and (after more examples) the Mister Evans who operates the railway crossing, "Level" Evans. It works in Wales, anyway.

I liked that. It was funny.
