Political Election Phone Calls

I have just answered the phone for the 6th time today to hear a recorded solicitation for one or another candidate running for our state and local elections. This has been going on for the past week and since the elections are not to be held until the end of the month, phone activity will no doubt increase. Hooray for answering machines because I will not be answereing the phone until after the elections. I wonder if these phone calls are really effective in getting votes? It sure doesn't work for me.

I know theya re not effective for me. I do not make a decision based on a pre recorded call. Sometimes here they come right on election day!!
One year, there was a very bitter race for County Executive. Lots of mud slinging and eac telling what was wrong with the other candidate..but nothing about what THEY would do for the county. So I voted that day, but NOT for that position.
That evening I got a call from the office of one of the two candidates, asking if I had voted. I said yes..but NOT for Cty exec..and I explained why. The person did not know what to say, thanked me for voting and said good bye.

One thing I definitely do not miss from living in the US, is the unsolicited phone call.
We do get them in the UK but not to such an extent, but -Guys you've got it to a fine art!
But guess what- we seem to think that it is a really good idea to go down the same path:-2 .

Blimey, thank god they don't do that over here!!:-3
It's bad enough when they come knocking at your door and all that cr*p they bung through your letterbox is really annoying!!
I thought I heard a rumour that unsolicited phonecalls were going to made illegal over here??

I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the number!

Yep I have had calls all week long driving me nuts, sure I'm going listen to a pre recorded call and vote based on what they say...!! :-5 I vote absentee ballot so I vote early before all the negative stuff starts. In my opinion the easiest way to vote period without the influence of others. Started it when I was disabled and continue absentee ballot voting love it.
