We used to have a fast ferry here..but we sold it to the Brits!!

So once upon a time the mayor of our town thought it would be a fine idea to have a fast ferry here in Rochester..to cross Lake Ontario between here and Toronto. Thing is, there was not proper investigation or planning on the part of the planners. Seems they forgot we have long cold winters here. Not ideal for ferrying accross the lake.
Anyhow, we got the Ferry a couple of summers back. And it did not do well..many mechanical problems..and other glitches. For crying out loud, while it was being delivered here, on a stop in New Yor City, it hit a pier and had to be repaired!
So now we have a new mayor and he decided we were too far in debt with this venture, and put the boat on the market. It was soon purchased by the British, to ferry accross the English Channel to France. I think the boat is now on its way to its new home. So, think of us here, those of you who ride it. It is a nice boat, and we hope we can get another some time...but take care of it!!

Just a thought- if it is unsuitable to cross Lake Ontario, then why is it okay to cross the English Channel?
And how the heck is it going to cross the Atlantic?:-2
I'll keep using the tunnel.

Not sure on that. As for crossing the ocean..It has already done so once..the boat was built down under..in Australia. Yep, I tend to forget you get some weather out there yourselves. If I am ever out in your parts, I may want to try that chunnel , myself. :driving: Does one get a bit claustrophobic, though? How long a trip is it?

How long a trip is it?I've not been through it myself - I suppose it's around 20 minutes underground at a guess, the tunnel's about 30 miles long. London to Paris is 2 hours 35 minutes, with no customs or boarding delays. Straight on straight off, between city centres.

You can catch the Eurostar passenger train in London, and cross to various destinations on the continent.
We travel to Ashford, near the coast and take the car onto a different type of train, basically a half mile long double decker tube, and go through to Calais.
It takes 35 minutes, and works very well.
We used to have a fast ferry here..but we sold it to the Brits!!

Yes, parts of it, in the bay and near the shorelines. They are now talking of getting a hovercraft.
