I either cry alot, color, or draw houseplans (inside only) I'm not an artist but I try, I also get old magazines and if I find something I like, I cut it out and glue, or tape, it on a sheet of typing paper and put it in a notebook. It helps with tension, stress and just helps me relax. Alot find it weird that I do that, but it's things I like to do.

I go for a long run. Or if I can't do that... I eat a large pot of the thickest creamiest most sinful yoghurt I can find. If it's a worse and longer kind of sad I pack my bags and just hit the road.

I usually try to fix the things that got me that way, but sometimes you just cant fix things, so you just have to ride it out I guess.

I don't know what's making you so sad. Sometimes there just isn't any specific reason for being sad. You just are! But I hope you get some sleep and wake up with that dark cloud lifted.

When I get sad, I jump on the motorcycle and ride, hard and fast, preferrably on the expressway. The wind hard in my face, the thrill of the speed, the danger....it just makes me feel so ALIVE. You can't be sad when you're doing 90 mph down the freeway on a bike.

I've never done that BR, but can relate to it.

Of course if there's a reason for sadness, like in hotsauce's case, it's different... .. I guess you just hafta work through it, somehow. Sigh.

But sometimes I feel sad for no particular reason. A kind of life angst thing - though as a whole I'm an optimistic and happy person. Those times, these days, I try to enter into the sadness. Step back a little and let myself go with the flow. I'm feeling lonely and blue, so I seek out a nice warm dark cafe somewhere and take a book in there, plug in to smokey, bluesy music, and drink black coffee. I usually feel quite cheery again by the time I leave.

Isnt that weird about blues ? Blues is sad by nature but its a good sad, a calm sad.

She sounds very sweet. And she was with you for 16 years. She must have had a wonderful life with you. And of course you can't contemplate having another dog right now. Can you try and get some sleep - sleep doesn't take away pain, but it helps you cope with it. I wish you some restful slumber!!

thanks. you truly are a good one! ;) yes, i plan on sleeping until i can't feel my arms anymore. then i'm going to wake up and get a 130 dollar hair cut and color. (total splurge for turning 30!) then i'm going to go get my back rubbed and chill for about 3 hours. i'm having a total chill, recover from this hangover day. and yes, everything seems better after sleep.

Sorry for your loss hot, loosing a dear pet is really loosing a family member. :-1

And it could not have come at a worse time, when you're turning "30"! That alone was a tramatic event for me. I remember the night before turning 30 sitting in a Bar, feeling sorry for myself & getting waisted, don't really know why I felt that way just did, I guess maybe it was leaving my 20's. So with your situation, you have yourself a double-banger! But cheer up I found out being "30" was a wonderful age, as you will find out also, you'll see. You're young enough to still be "in" with the young crowd, and now old enough to really be considered an adult by your elders!

And in time, maybe you may find yourself a new puppy that catches your fancy!

OK, this is just too creepy. Shadow, when I read your post I thought, "Hey, it IS kinda quiet in here...think I'll turn on the stereo." Guess what song was just starting? Yup, Evanesance...."Bring Me to Life." How freakin' bizarre is that????

I should have phrased it better I guess. I don't get so sad anymore that I have to have coping strategies like this. Maybe I am weird I don't know. If I'm sad, it's because someone has died, or something drastic like that.

When I was in my late teens/early 20s I was the saddest lil thing you ever did see. For me it took being diagnosed with leukemia for that to change. I don't have any wonderful answers I'm afraid, that was what turned me around, I don't know what it will be for you. But.... I will say, the power of the mind is an amazing thing. Sometimes all it takes is to tell yourself a different story than the one your mind goes to naturally. ie If your day was terrible, dont focus on how terrible your day was, admit your day was terrible, accept that not everyday will be your version of fabulous, but focus on something good in the day (yes, there IS always something) and always always remember that any day you wake up really is a whole new beginning.

Mostly, give yourself a break, don't be your own worst critic, be your own best cheer squad. People are just so hard on themselves these days.
