Do you tell lie's .................are you as " honest as the the day is long" ..what do you think of little white lie's or great whopper's .....or the people who tell them. Could you/would you forgive someone if they lied to you . Me... i hate liar's with a passion , when i first dipped my toe's into the vast open space that is the world wide web it was quite a culture shock, i thought i'd made a friend only to find out what a nasty lying two faced piece of scum they really are... so now i take what i hear with a pinch of salt - it's only the internet afterall .........................anyone else have any feeling's... i would also like to add little white lie's to save somebody's feeling's i suppose are ok and telling people your kid is 14 for three year's is compulsory after the age of 30+ ( wait till you've got one then you'll see):D

Clancy wrote: I'm happy with telling a white lie, like ....
"Oh what a beautiful baby"....when the child clearly looks like Winston Churchill...
Or, "Oh, what a lovely hat" ....when it clearly looks like a fruit salad on their head. Stuff like that doesn't really bother me much at all.
If it's a friend, and they ask me for the truth, or a truthful opinion....then I'll give it to them.
At that level it's polite social interaction.
Telling a terminally ill person they're going to be OK is totally dependant on the person - it might well be an absolute necessity or it could be a grave injustice.
Telling the wife you've worked late and come straight home when you've been to the pub for half an hour on the way and you're on very shakey ground.
Saying 3 or 4 when it was 2 might just be exageration but ....
I try *very* hard not to lie and feel uncomfortable if I find I have - I don't think I ever do so deliberately.
I feel disturbed if I find someone's lied to me and it takes me a while to trust them again.
That about sums me up - next!

I don't fib, I don't care about telling my age.
To my students, I am old anyway!
And telling lies only leads to future trouble.

I have always been as straight as a die - what's the point of not being? Lies destroy people's trust and confidence in others. I know it's a cliche, but it's true - you know what to do with a thief, but what do you do with a liar? Far, far more destructive than lies though, are empty words and broken promises: "Yes, I'll definately be in touch." "It's in the post." "Oh Anthea dharrrling, it's been so long." Etc. etc.

Bingo. I'm 100% with you on this, Butter. You don't truly, absolutely know anyone 100%. Even Bullet. I know there are things he hasn't shared with me, for various reasons, a painful past, some abuse he's suffered, and if it's painful for him to talk about, then, it doesn't matter. Our future is what matters, not the past.
But I'm getting off track here. I cannot abide a liar or a theif. Either of these things, to me, is unexcuseable.
I'm not talking about the little white lies that have been referred to, like the "cute" baby that looks like Winston Churchill, (snorted Pepsi out my nose when I read that one), you don't want to intentionally hurt someone's feelings. But to lie to cover your ass, or with any malice, or for any other reason than to spare someone's feelings, it's flat-out wrong. If I find I've been lied to about something important, that person has lost my trust and it would take a miracle to get it back.
And while we're at it, I don't want to be lied to to have my feelings spared, either. If I ask someone, "How does this hat look on me?" and they think it looks stupid and they tell me "It's great!" that would p!ss me off. I don't need things white-washed for me. If I ask a question, I want the truth, not what you think I want to hear.

I dont lie. Period. It has made life very difficult. People either love me to death, or they loathe me.

If I hear of anyone saying they loathe you, I'm going to have them evaluated by a shrink, and then I'm going to kick their ass. :-4 :-4
Cuz I LOVE'S you!!!!

I'm not a liar, I don't care for the folks who lie to gain headway for themselves. However I do enjoy a good storyteller. My adoptive dad is one of these type of guys. You know he stretches the truth in his stories, but that what makes them so great.

i think everyone lies. It's the size and scope of the lie that determines whether or not I give a rats ass if it's a lie. There has to be the intent to harm in order for me to find it unacceptable. Anything else, hey you're human, i can take it, if you can.:p
That about sums it up for me too, Flop.

My husband does this to our boys. We have a 9 year-old and a 5 year-old who are both very bright, but also very gullible. I usually know hubby is up to something when one of the boys comes to ask me something like "Mum, did Dad really used to be a pirate before he met you???" :yh_rotfl

There's a big difference between a little white lie in order to save somebody's feeling's or.... exaggerating, we all must of done that at some point ( i do ) but to be sneeky and two faced and tell out right lie's so people think your Mother Therasa and because you think nobody will find out - well i hate that .... This person i know would boast about how intellegent THEY believed they were and make out they had friend's from all over the world but all i ever heard was that person slagging everyone off an s***stirring and if someone sent them photo's they would then send them on to other's to be laughed at.... in the end it was easy to see though the lie's..... i find it sad how far some people will go to be popular and i know for a fact this person would'nt want people to know the thruth... that really all they are is a sad hypercondriac dole scrounging fantasist...sad really ....i almost feel sorry for them..,,,,,,,NOT!!!!

SnoozeControl wrote: I posted the following somewhere else in here and was asked what my point was...
I had a chatroom buddy that I liked very much named Liz. Great sense of humor and after a while, we started chatting on IM. She told me many things about herself, and vice versa...
Well, about a year later, there were some discrepancies that just didn't add up. Shortly after that, Liz confessed she wasn't really a 25 year old woman, he was a 36 year old man. I wasn't the only one duped, there were many men that were aghast at the deception. I tried to be forgiving, but the whole thing just really creeped me out and we haven't talked since.
That's probably the most extreme example of someone lying to me, but to this day I have problems putting much trust in people online. I'm pretty damn honest, and I appreciate others that are also.
*climbing down off soapbox*
Now that's a warning people if that had happened to me i would be soooo paranoid.... did the guy ever say why he did it ?????
