This isn't confirmed but...

Back in the olden days(?) drinks in pubs were served in pints and quarts. If someone was getting rowdy in the pub and a fight was on the cards, the barman would shout out, "Mind your pints and quarts" and that's where our saying "mind your p's and q's" when someone swears comes from.
