Did I Forget to Remember I just Forget?

Every day I have as with everyday set off to work, and drive the same route. It's like clockwork, but recently there has been some roadworks that involve a lengthy wait at some tempoary traffic lights. With-out fail every time I reach them I say to myself, "Next time I must turn left out of my road instead of right and then I will avoid this hold up."
Upon my return I know the lights are there and I tell myself to take a different route to avoid them, but do I? Of course I don't so there I sit. I then say to myself in the morning I must turn left instead of right and avoid this hold up.
So, what happens? I don't and I end up queueing as usual.
It's a case of I suppose that I do Remember about the traffic lights but forget to take action to avoid them. Or perhaps my mind is so used to going the same way day in and day out that when I try and tell myself to go a different way something in my memory `overules` the thought and takes me on the usual route.
Anyway, yesterday I finaly went the alternative way which was a waste of time because as I forgot again on my return journey I discovered that the roadworks had finnished and those dreaded traffic lights had gone.
