What do you think of Reality TV shows?

Every industry is scrambling to come up with their own version of competition a la Fear Factor, The Apprentice, American Idol.

At first I thought it was silliness...then I got thinking, hey, this is a chance for a bunch of nobodies to become somebodies and isn't that really just a sick and twisted version Cinderella. Oh, yeah, I guess most the original versions of fairy tales are sick and twisted too.

Anyway, sadly I must admit to actually liking these silly things now. :yh_liar Okay I only like them a bit. One or two of them.

What is the dumbest reality show you could imagine...if you could make up your own?

I am not interested at all, i think they are stupid planned out soap-operas for evening television, probably the nintendo and television era people need reality TV? how lazy, thats why young people these days are dirty, unresponsible, and uncommitted to anyone, but themselves. this is the generation who voted for Kerry too, we have a generation of mold filled minds and attitudes, that also include the tattos, piercings & just wanting to be freaks. i don't get it, we have been in the new age bit for a bit....get a life, it may be too late....

I think over time, many of the reality shows are going more for the sex appeal shock factor. I think many of them represent the worst of morals and ethics. But hey, let's not forget that Jerry Springer and others have been on the tube for years spewing this same stuff.

Having said that, I do like a few! I like watching American Idol (so many sad/pathetic people grasping at fame), Survivor, and I'm looking forward to watching The Rebel Billionaire.

Survivor seems to be one of the shows where most of the contestants have real lives before they got onto the show. The other reality shows are so full of vacuous lives that it's depressing to watch.

If you are so sick of religion talk, as your other recent posts indicate, why bring it up here?

Maybe that's your idea for a funny reality show. Leaders of different religions have to save an errant person's soul. The one who takes the longest gets booted off each round. Every round the people to be saved become more sinful and the final winner gets a chance to commune with God for 10 minutes alone.

Had to go back to figure out how Kerry and Bush got into this. Good catch, Lennonmommy.

Maybe she thinks that all Kerry's votes came from the young, hole filled, unshowered people who obviously create the ratings on tv for lack of a social life. Good thing the older, unshowered people who don't watch tv and can drink water without leaking outnumber them?

I feel another reality show coming on.

What if the politicians have to compete on a call in rating show to win the presidency. That way we only have to decide on throwing one out of the race each week. Or they have to pass all the tests first. One challenge is "the red button". They have to decide whether or not to push it while a bunch of advisors give them false information and test their willpower. The one who pushes it first gets the boot. Test two: there are a bunch of bills before them. They have five minutes to pick which one they will pass. The bills are rated 1-10. The one who passes the bill with the lowest rating...uh, bu bye.

I perfer "real" tv shows with a plot or commedy that plods along.

But I did watch The Apprentice per my wife.

And if I were Donald I would split the two on the losing team and have them pick their team members.

They are not my first choice in entertainment. However right now I think people watch so they can be in the conversations at work.

ER use to be that way. Everyone was talking about so I started to watch it to know what everyone is talking about.

To me the "real" TV shows are fake as they tend to be contrived. I'll be happy when the fad passes but I have partaken a bit in it.

Try and create a reality show spoof.

For those who dislike them, make fun of them in a creative way. The best way to show how silly they are is to make up ridiculous versions...spoofs. I have offered a couple. Lets hear more.

Well I must admit I am a survivor fanatic, can't wait for the new one. And good on them for lasting so long and maintaining such a great viewer base wahooo Love the human side of that show.

As for the rest of the reality crap, well come on who on this entire planet gives a dam about Nick and Jessica, those poor pathetic woman that the bachelor didn't choose, and who can honestly stand looking at Donald Trumps supremely bad comb over much longer.

What in hades happened to creativity. Are we so pathetic that there is no imagination out there anymore to come up with something unique, are we so pathetic that we have to delve into others lives I mean come on tell me where is the entertainment value of that stupid show about which team can loose more weight this week show? That is the stupidest subject matter on the planet. I mean a gazillion great novels out there by brilliant authors, and TV producers can't get an imagination like them.... tsk tsk so sad.

Ooops forgot my submission for a bad reality show

pit a bunch of people against each other who have really crappy jobs and see who's really is the worst and the person with the lamest excuse of a bad job that week gets voted off and they continue elimination by following people to their lousy jobs to see who truly has the worst job.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I got an idea. "The neighbors" everyone spies on their neighbors and anything funny goes on TV. Oh wait they already have the show and it is called America's Funniest Videoes or something like that.

Shows like that are just for when there isn't anything better on TV in my opinion.

He didn't say he was sick of religion talk. He stated his opinion on religion. Maybe it was because of the post directly above his that talked of ethics, morals, and values. Perhaps he was thinking of tv evangelism. I don't know...but neither do you.

I probably should stay out of it altogether, but I found it slightly annoying that you would chide a grown man for not responding the way you wanted. My apologies to everyone...please resume your thread.
