My sister is 7 yrs older than me (66) and has lived in the US for 40 years...I have just had this devastating news from her...I'm gutted...
"I have breast cancer again.and will be seeing a surgeon on Mondaymorning. I expect to have a double radical
mastectomy. Well thats the not so good news
however the areas are still non invasive ductal
carsimnoma in situ. (check it out on the
internet. My decision to have both breasts
removed is solely because I don't want to emerge
5 years hence with the disease in my left breast.
The kids are ready to take their turns at being
with me this time ane are just waiting for the
dates!! You only stay in the hospital one night
and go home with drains in!!."

Bez, If there is anything I can do for you here in San Diego let me know. I don't have an extra bedroom at this time with my daughter and granddaughter living with me, but your more than welcome to have my room if you need it. I love to sleep in my lazy boy recliner, or on the couch.
So sorry to hear about you sister, could you tell me what hospital she is having this surgery done at??

Where in San Diego does your sister live??

Sorry to hear your news Bez. You must be really worried. It's a drastic measure she's taking, but wise I think to reduce the risk and hopefully emerge with a happy ending. Best wishes to you and your big sis

So sorry to hear the sad news Bez, your sister will be in my thoughts & prayers.
Also, I'm sure I don't have to tell you how important it is for you to make sure that you go reguarly for your regular checkups, due to your family history!

Spookily enough, I have had an appointment sent to me for March 28th. Over here every woman over 50 is checked every 3 years and a computer generated appointment is sent out for this free service. Thanks for your kind thoughts Cars.

Oh Bez, big hugs to you and your sister and all your family. You're also in my thoughts and prayers. Like Unc says, it may be a drastic choice but also the best. My aunt had a lumpectomy when she had breast cancer, but says now she wishes she's had a mastectomy as she would no longer worry so much about a relapse. Very best wishes to you all. Sorry, Sorry , Sorry, Bez. Have hope .. weve made great strides with breast cancer, The double masectomy is a very agressive approach... and wise. If your sister was coming to UVA in Virginia... a bed would be yours. All the love and good energy sent your way... will have an effect.

I really feel for you all. This is a very difficult time, but you will all be im my prayers.
I know the feeling, as my cousin has breast cancer, and my sister just been diagnosed with lymphoma.
I think the drastic measure is the only one to take, and i will be thinking of her, she sounds like she has a positive outlook, and that is what it takes to get through these times.

Im sorry Bezzy. If theres a way to see beyond her circumstances, it might be that its merely her body, her mind, heart and soul are her essence.
Blessings.

Oh honey! I'm so sorry! I just saw this!
My mother had a similar thing done, Bez. I can assure you it will be okay. They have made miraculous strides in breast cancer. My mom went home with her drains too. It's suprising, but it really is okay. I went home to take care of her when she got home from the hospital.
You are both in our hearts and prayers sweetheart.

Oh Bezzy I mirror Ravens words. My mom is a breast cancer survivor as well. Sweetie I wear my pink ribbon daily for mom and now for your sis as well.
