You ever been to a Cat Fancier's show?!?!?

Call me narrow minded, but I don't care for breeders. They bring out the popular physical aspects of an animal, regardless of the health problems.
I don't care for SOME breeders, but I wouldn't really lump them all
together and say "regardless of the health problems". Because a
genuine breeder who truly cares about the breed does consider the
health problems. After all, they won't get far in the "business" of
breeding if animals constantly die or are returned or whatever. Word
gets out at shows, etc. "Don't buy from XYZ kennel, there's major
hip displasia in their lines".
I'll grant you that the "finessing" goes over the top a lot of times.
But a lot of things done to dogs in particular were for their health
(like having docked tails, so they didn't whack it against stuff and
break it). Or the grooming, in the case of poodles, hair was left
around the joints to keep them warmer in the cold water they swam
in!
As to that photo that started this thread... sickest of the sick, in my
book!!

My mother has a Jack Russel Terrier that she's beefing up like this............. We've told her over and over again, the vet has talked to her, but 'Mother' keeps right on feeding him like he's a person. Should be law available to remove these animals from this overfeeding abuse cause you cannot call it anything else but that! Be assured all you animal lovers out there, this woman will NOT be getting any more pets to overfeed.....................

I agree that some breeders found to be doing the wrong things need deregistering, but the majority of breeders i know are fanatical.
Some of the measures i go to, to do the right thing by the breed, including refusing puppies to people that i don't think will be responsible owners. I love the babies i breed, and would never sleep a wink if i didn't treat them right.
I can understand a bad experience making you feel like that, but i can speak from personal experience and say we are not all that way.
And back to the original reason for this thread, i certainly hope it is a bogus pic!!!

SnoozeControl wrote: I apologize for my earlier statements... although I still strongly believe that "breeders" are bringing out all the worst features. Here's an example of what a Persian cat used to look like and what it looks like now. I've even seen much worse, where the cat can barely breathe or eat. I have to ask... why?
Those pictures are very telling... I don't know why it's done that way, either.
And after thinking about it a while, I realized that I don't like what is
being done to my favorite dog breed... you see those top ones in shows
and their backs are waaaay to sloped to look good to me. Thank goodness
my girl isn't like that but that is the way the breed is headed, for sure.
