when you think about the world as a whole and all of human society and everything that is happening within it.

is there a song you think off?

what would that song be?

if you don't think of a song then just give us one for the sake of it.

i think of 'Us and Them' by Pink Floyd...

its slow mood acurately reflects the daily trials and tribulations of mankind without taking a side or refering to anyone force.

that and its a really cool song.

Eve Of Destruction

lyrics Bob Dylan

performed by Barry Mcguire (1965)

(click to hear)http://www.terrificmusic.com/files/musi ... cguire.ram

The eastern world it is explodin',

Violence flarin', bullets loadin',

You're old enough to kill but not for votin',

You don't believe in war, what's that gun you're totin',

And even the Jordan river has bodies floatin',

But you tell me over and over and over again my friend,

Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Don't you understand, what I'm trying to say?

Can't you feel the fears that I'm feeling today?

If the button is pushed, there's no running away,

There'll be no one to save with the world in a grave,

Take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy,

And you tell me over and over and over again my friend,

Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin',

I'm sittin' here, just contemplatin',

I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation,

Handful of Senators don't pass legislation,

And marches alone can't bring integration,

When human respect is disintegratin',

This whole crazy world is just too frustratin',

And you tell me over and over and over again my friend,

Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China!

Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama!

Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space,

But when your return, it's the same old place,

The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace,

You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace,

Hate your next-door-neighbour, but don't forget to say grace,

And you tell me over and over and over and over again my friend,

you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction

When Leonard Cohen wrote "The Future" in the early ' 90s, the song seemed dark and ominous, given that the Soviet bloc had crumbled, and democracy was sweeping throughout eastern Europe and Russia. Everything looked pretty rosy, and Leonard hits us with this :

Give me back the Berlin wall

give me Stalin and St Paul

I've seen the future, brother:

it is murder.

Things are going to slide, slide in all directions

Won't be nothing

Nothing you can measure anymore

The blizzard, the blizzard of the world

has crossed the threshold

and it has overturned

the order of the soul

Turns out he was right.

I gotta go with Alfred's choice. Pink Floyd. Good pick, man.

That or Everlast's "What it's like"

Hard-core, but a very good message. (Going to find the lyrics right now.)

Edit to add lyrics:

"What It's Like"

We've all seen the man at the liquor store beggin' for your change

The hair on his face is dirty, dreadlocked and full of mange

He ask the man for what he could spare with shame in his eyes

Get a job you f*ckin' slob's all he replied

[CHORUS]

God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes

'Cause then you really might know what it's like to sing the blues

Then you really might know what it's like

Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom who said he was in love

He said don't worry about a thing baby doll I'm the man you've been dreamin' of

But three months later he said he won't date her or return her call

And she sweared god damn if I find that man I'm cuttin' off his balls

And then she heads for the clinic and she gets some static walkin' through the doors

They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner, and they call her a wh0re

[CHORUS]

God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes

'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose

Then you really might know what it's like

I've seen a rich man beg

I've seen a good man sin

I've seen a tough man cry

I've seen a loser win

And a sad man grin

I heard an honest man lie

I've seen the good side of bad

And the down side of up

And everything between

I licked the silver spoon

Drank from the golden cup

Smoked the finest green

I stroked daddies dimes at least a couple of times

Before I broke their heart

You know where it ends

Yo, it usually depends on where you start

I knew this kid named Max

He used to get fat stacks out on the corner with drugs

He liked to hang out late at night

Liked to get sh!t faced

And keep pace with thugs

Until late one night there was a big gun fight

Max lost his head

He pulled out his chrome .45

Talked some sh!t

And wound up dead

Now his wife and his kids are caught in the midst of all of his pain

You know it crumbles that way

At least that's what they say when you play the game

[CHORUS]

God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news

'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to lose

Then you really might know what it's like

To have to lose...

Reunion Song Lyrics

Life Is A Rock

Life is a rock but the radio rolled me.

Got to turn it up ouder, so my DJ told me.

Life is a rock but the radio rolled me.

At the end of my rainbow lies a golden oldie.

FM, AM, hits are clickin' while the clock is tockin'-tickin'

Friends and Romans, salutations, Brenda and the Tabulations

Carly Simon, I behold her, Rolling Stoning, centerfolder

Johnny Cash and Johnny Rivers, can't stop now, I got the shivers

Mungo Jerry, Peter Peter Paul and Paul and Mary Mary

Dr. John the nightly tripper, Doris Day and Jack the Ripper

Gotta go Sir, got to swelter, Leon Russell, Gimme Shelter

Miracles in smokey places, slide guitars and Fender basses.

Arthur Janov primal, Screamin' Hawkins Jay and Dale and Ronnie,

Kukla Fran and Norma Okla, Denver John and Osmond Donny

JJ Cale and ZZ Top and LL Bean and DD Dinah

David Bowie, Steely Dan and sing me proud, oh CC Rider

Edgar Winter, Joanie Sommers, Ides of March and Johnny Thunder

Eric Clapton, pedal wah-wah, Stephen Foster, do-dah do-dah

Good Vibrations, Help Me Rhonda, Surfer Girl and Little Honda

Tighter, tighter, honey, honey, sugar, sugar, yummy, yummy.

Shimmy shimmy ko-ko bop and Fats is back and Finger Poppin'.

Mushroom omelet, Bonnie Bramlett, Wilson Pickett, stomp and kick it.

CBS and Warner Brothers, RCA and all the others.

Rock it, sock it, Alan Freed me, Murray Kaufman, tried to lead me.

Fish, and Swim, and Boston Monkey, Make it bad and play it funky.

Freddy King and Albert King and B.B. King and frolicking.

The Onion Song

(Nickolas Ashford/Valerie Simpson)

BOTH: The world is just a great big onion

MG: & pain & fear are the spices that make you cry

BOTH: Oh, & the only way to get rid of this great big onion

TT: Is to plant love seeds until it dies, uh huh

MG: Hey world! We got a great big job to do

Yeah, we need you

& everybody who loves truth

Don't you know we've got to clean up this place

& reach far high & oh yeah

TT: Yes we do

We gotta be headstrong about rightin' the wrong

& make a mountain of happy souls, oh; MG: Oh

BOTH: The world is just a great big onion

MG: & I don't care, it's the face people like to wear

TT: Yes it is now

BOTH: & the only way to get rid of this great big onion

TT: Every one single soul's got to do their share

MG: Tell about it, baby!

MG: So come on, let's knock on every door

Tell them love is the answer

Whether they're rich or poor, oh yeah

For we don't care what you do

How you look, or your status claim, baby

TT: No no, because brothers & sisters

From now on, is gonna be everyone's name, oh oh

BOTH: The world is just a great big onion

MG: & pain & fear are the spices that make you cry

TT: Yes it is

BOTH: & the only way to get rid of this great big onion

TT: Is to plant love seeds

MG: Now everybody, got to plant love seeds

TT: Come on & plant love seeds

MG: Until it dies

BOTH: The world is just a great big onion

For What It's Worth

Stephen Stills, 1966

There's something happening here

What it is ain't exactly clear

There's a man with a gun over there

Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn

Nobody's right if everybody's wrong

Young people speaking their minds

Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat

A thousand people in the street

Singing songs and carrying signs

Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep

Into your life it will creep

It starts when you're always afraid

You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Stop, now, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Stop, children, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Five Man Electrical Band
Signs
c. 1970, 1972
And the sign said "Long-haired freaky people need not apply"

So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why

He said "You look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do"

So I took off my hat, I said "Imagine that. Huh! Me workin' for you!"

Whoa-oh-oh

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign

Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind

Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?

And the sign said anybody caught trespassin' would be shot on sight

So I jumped on the fence and-a yelled at the house, "Hey! What gives you

the

right?"

"To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep mother nature in"

"If God was here he'd tell you to your face, Man, you're some kinda sinner"

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign

Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind

Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?

Now, hey you, mister, can't you read?

You've got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat

You can't even watch, no you can't eat

You ain't supposed to be here

The sign said you got to have a membership card to get inside

Ugh!

And the sign said, "Everybody welcome. Come in, kneel down and pray"

But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all, I didn't have a

penny to pay

So I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign

I said, "Thank you, Lord, for thinkin' 'bout me. I'm alive and doin' fine."

Wooo!

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign

Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind

Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign

Sign

Sign, sign

One for JesseB :-

Moving on Song

(Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger)

Born in the middle of an afternoon

In a horse-drawn wagon on the old A5

The big twelve wheeler shook my bed

You can't stop here the policeman said

You better get born someplace else

So move along, get along, move along, get along,

Go, move, shift

Born in the tatie lifting time

In an old bow tent in a tatie field

The farmer said, The work's all done

It's time that you were moving on

Born in a wagon on a building site

Where the ground was rutted by the trailer's wheels

The local people said to me,

You'll lower the price of property

Born at the back of a blackthorn hedge

When the white hoarfrost lay all around

No wise men came bearing gifts

Instead the order came to shift

The winter sky was hung with stars

And one shone brighter than the rest

The wise men came so stern and strict

And brought the order to evict

Wagon, tent, or trailer born

Last week, last year, or in far off days

Born here or a thousand miles away

There's always men nearby who'll say

For me? :-

My name it means nothing

My fortune is less

My future is shrouded in dark wilderness

Sunshine is far away, clouds linger on

Everything I posessed - now they are gone

Oh where can I go to and what can I do?

Nothing can please me only thoughts are of you

You just laughed when I begged you to stay

Ive not stopped crying since you went away

The world is a lonely place - youre on your own

Guess I will go home - sit down and moan.

Crying and thinking is all that I do

Memories I have remind me of you

I see trees of green........ red roses too

I see em bloom..... for me and for you

And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue..... clouds of white

Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights

And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world.

The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky

Are also on the faces.....of people ..going by

I see friends shaking hands.....sayin.. how do you do

Theyre really sayin......i love you.

I hear babies cry...... I watch them grow

Theyll learn much more.....than Ill never know

And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world
