Snooze! Great post! But I have a little confession to make! I have OCD (Obsessive COmpulsive Disorder). I carry around hand sanitizer in my purse. Not only do I put this stuff on my hands about 6-8 times a day, I use tissue to rub down the toilet seat with it! THEN..I put the plastic tissue paper on top of that and still dont sit down on it!! I squat. People call me crazy, but you know what? I almost NEVER get sick. I work in an office with 7 other people and on more than one occasion I have caught 3-4 of them NOT washing their hands after coming out of the restroom! UGH! So I open cabinets and use common spaces with either my gloves on or by putting my sleeve or a tissue between my fingers!

I know its all mental, but I cant get over the fact that if I touch a "common space" and dont wash my hands, I can literally feel the little germs multiplying on my hands!

I go through a bottle a week of this stuff!!



P.S. I have latex gloves in my glove box and put them on when I got to pump gas in my car!!!!:o

My only thing is I ALWAYS wash my hands as soon as I get home from anywhere cuz think of all the things you touch when you're out! Yuck!

I read somewhere that the bathroom door handles have more bacteria than the toilet seat!

And shopping carts! :yh_sick I always see people coughing and hacking or sneezing into their hand and then put that hand right back on the cart!

The grocery store that we use now has disposable cleaning wipes available at the door for cleaning the cart rails & door handles.

Yes, the faucets, paper towel dispensers & door handles in a public restroom are filthy. Stuff your pockets with towels on the way in, and wash your hands before relieving yourself. Think about it .... that portion of your body is protected by at least one layer of fabric while in public, and who knows where your hands have been?

I just this morning heard of a survey that tested fast food places, the toilets and the ice in the drinks, and found, on the average, fewer bacteria in the toilet water than in the ice.

Anytime I use the bathroom, I turn on the water, wash my hands, dry them and then use the towel to turn the water off. I mean, really, your hands are dirty when you turn the water on, why would you turn it off with your clean hands?

Then I use the towels to open the door to leave.

Gal, I also carry the hand sanitizer in my bag. But I saw on 60 Minutes, or something, that we are making ourselves sicker by over using these things. Our body needs to have access to some germs in order to build up our immunity.

I know, I know,. . . . it's still yucky!

I never use my hand to flush a public toilet. I use my foot. Sorry but those people have just wiped themselves then flushed. :yh_sick

I heard that about the sanitizer too, but Im not changing. I say that because it seems to work for me. I havent been sick in over four years! Besides, with me its mostly mental. I CANNOT get it out of my head that little bugs are crawling and $hitting and breeding all over my hands when I dont use that stuff.:wah:

We have become overly paronoid about these things.. :-5 :-5 Common sense should tell you that your not going to get sick from the toilet period... as long as you wash your hands properly your good to go. Most of the hype is just a money maker for products... !! Growing up we never worried about this stuff just went to the bathroom washed our hand and dried them then left no bacterial soaps, washes, towels just paper and soap..

Germs and bacteria are every where folks, always have been, always will be... lighten up. You should be more fearful of the idiot driving behind you talking on his cell phone than germs...:driving:

Like I said, I am clinically diagnosed with OCD, if I could "just get over it" I would. That's like asking someone with paranoid schizoprhenia to "get over it", dont you think?

I'm sorry if I offended you, was not my intention at all. I was basically getting at the whole notion that we can do away with bacteria, and germs with a toilet seat cover, sprays, wipes.. just not going to happen they were here long before us.

I understand our concerns as a society to be in control of everything in our lives, we can't we just can't be. I have friends who are OCD, to be honest I think each and everyone of us is a bit OCD just human nature to a degree. So please forgive me for seeming insensitive I'm not I understand totally..~~

Schizoprhenia I would never tell a person with this to get over it, actually I don't think we do enough for people with this diagnosis..

Snooze I would never tell a person with Schizoprhenia to get over it.. that's not what this thread is about. I don't think we do enough for people with this diagnosis. This thread was about toilet seat covers...:-3 I'm sorry if I offened you kiddo...!!

I am actually the opposite with being careful about germs. I do of course wash my hands after using the rest room. Actually, I wash my hands quite often. Not because Im worried about germs. They just feel unclean. But anyway, my best friend just told me recently about how she never touches the door nob in public rest rooms I never noticed that she used the paper towel to open the door. She said " Those knobs are covered in meow, meow meow.Got it? We had quite a laugh over it. I realized shes right. I do wear gloves whenever I put my hands in dirt. I finally got vigilent about that years ago. Many viruses are carried in the soil.
