Nine churches in Alabama were set ablaze. Authorities think it is the same two white guys in a dark SUV.

They say that it's not a "hate crime" because the churches were 4 predominantly white and 5 predominantly black. What about all being predominantly Baptist?!? Apparently that doesn't constitute hate. :-5

I don't agree with hate crime legislation in general, but if we have it, shouldn't it make sense?

I'm with you, Accountable re: hate crime legislation. In my view, this is simply arson and should be prosecuted as such. Yet, it begs the question, what if nine gay bars had been torched. We wouldn't simply be talking about the arson of nine buildings we would be having an explosive national debate about civil rights and homophobia. But Christians can't be expected to get the same protection against "hate crimes" and black civil rights are so "yesterday".

I think it's really sad that these are just arson cases. When clearly there has been a specific target, Baptists.
