Hey all. I'm gonna start saving up to take my 2 grandsons (& their parents) to Disney World, when they get a little older. I was wondering some things. Since Owen's 1 & Tyson's just a few weeks old, I have a few years to save. What age would you say is good to take them, so they'll remember? Also, anyone have any vague ideas as to costs? Any suggestions on where to stay? Etc...

We lived in Orlando for 10 years and I worked at Disney for a little while!:)

Check into Davenport, Fl. short term rental houses, you'll still be minutes from Disney but the prices are great compared to getting a hotel room and you'd get a pool house to yourself. That would probabaly make things easier with young kids (I know, we have a 2 & 4 year old) where everyone can have their own bedroom and you'd be able to cook at home, do laundry, etc.

At Disney you are able to leave the park and come back if you want to take a break during the day or eat off property. I know most people think the food/drink prices inside the park are expensive.

Thanks so much!!! My parents took us when we were younger, in 1976. We had a camper & stayed in an RV park in Kissimee. But we ate at Disney. We had a BLAST!!

I went when I was 12 but didn't really appreciate it as much as when I took my beloved, when I was 25.



I recommend waiting till they're married.

i was forced against my will to go once...i would suggest waiting until they are old enough not to cry and scream while waiting in interminably long miserable lines.

We were 13, 11, & 8. I enjoyed it TREMENDOUSLY!!

Well I don't know about Disneyworld, but Disneyland is my forte (only been there 5 times)

The best time was when my girls were in double digits. 15 and 12, they could tolerate the lines and understand why they had to line up.... they could go on all the rides without worrying about measuring up, they were not lost in the crowd (first time we went we lost our youngest briefly to the balloon man) they were old enough to not fear the larger than life characters, they lasted longer in a day and went on into the evening and kept up with their father and I. As well, they still loved the magic of it all.

We have HersheyPark, locally. But I just hate going there! Nothing but rollercoasters. And it's soooo expensive, for nothing, if you don't like rollercoasters.

I've never been to DisneyWorld or Disneyland. Someday I hope to take my kids, but think we are gonna start off with Six Flags and SeaWorld.

I guess Hershey's is no big deal to me cuz I've been here so long. Come on over! The more, the merrier! How's about we take a bottle of wine & take a dip in the chocolate spa??

We went to SeaWorld too when we were in Florida, as a kid.

I have been to san diego sea world and loved it too.... sigh oooooo I miss california....

I miss the Gulf Coast too, Minks. But I guess it's probably not as I remember it anyway.

Well, we'll be making a trip down there before too long for my father anyways. I hear a couple of the casinos are back up & running.

If Owen is 1 and hes the oldest thats good. You might be able to save enough by then. Otherwise consider a 2nd mortgage on your pad. Its been yrs since I went and I got a resident discount but Im sure its getting near a hundred per park per person per day although they do have several packages. Age wise I would say 3 and 4 would be just fine. Make sure you take them on space mountain, its the best ride in the park. If you go to Universal the Back to the Future ride kicks booty.

We took our oldest girls about 13 years ago when they were 8 and 10. The queues were sometimes horrendous so we didn't get to go on everything we wanted plus we only had a 4 day pass to fit everything in, I enjoyed it more than the kids.

We took youngest daughter 2 years ago when she was ten, stayed on site for two weeks so we could take it at a slower pace which I recommend. The fast pass system is a big help, cuts the queues down a lot.

If you're staying at a Disney hotel you do get into the parks earlier some days and you get the free transport which saves on parking charges but if you decide to do that make sure you're aware of what the hotels have to offer. We stayed at an All Stars hotel which we didn't realise until we got there is the budget end of the range, not a problem but some of the facilities weren't great.

Re age of kids - depends on if you think you'll ever go back again, obviously being very young limits what they can do but it also makes everything a little bit more magical. I think about 8 -10 is a good age because they can go on most of the rides.

Also we went to Discovery Cove and swam with a dolphin which is one of my daughters best days of her life (along with meeting Santa at Lapland!)

We were at Disney World 1997 - we stayed in Kissimee which is right down the street from the entrance - I believe we stayed at a Best Western - we had a pass so you could come & go through out the day, there are different passes to purchase 1 day to 4 to 5 day pass. Nothings cheap so start saving - your grandkids will love it and so will you. I believe the same pass allows you into Epcot, which is right next to Disney. As far as the right age? It depends 5 or 6 yrs old - kids are so mature now so you'll need to decide - kids will need to be a certain height to go on some rides so keep that in mind. They may be bored with just the kiddy rides and then won't qualify for the adult rides.?? Enjoy

Going to Disney world is my dream. I really want to go Disney world one tine in my life But I have some money problem. I hope I will go there one day.

The tickets start out at $71 a day but go down for each extra day you buy as a package. For 7 days it's about $220 plus about $50 if you want to add the water parks. Just log on to the Disney World website.

I'd say no younger than 6. I went when i was 8 and can remember quite a lot.
