--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A farm boy accidentally overturned his wagonload of corn. The farmer who lived nearby heard the noise and yelled over to the boy, "Hey Willis, forget your troubles. Come in and visit with us. I'll help you get the wagon up later."
"That's mighty nice of you," Willis answered, "but I don't think Pa would like me to."
"Aw come on boy," the farmer insisted.
"Well okay," the boy finally agreed, and added, "but Pa won't like it."
After a hearty dinner, Willis thanked his host. "I feel a lot better now, but I know Pa is going to be real upset."
"Don't be foolish!" the neighbor said with a smile. "By the way, where is he?"
"Under the wagon." replied the boy

In some ways they are a joke. They claimed we would get more time with our families.
We use to work 40 hours a week. Times 52 weeks this is 2080 hours. New system we work 3 days have 4 off. Work 4 have 3 days off. So basically half the time. But it is not really half the time. 365 / 2 = 182.5 times 12 = 2,190
2,190 - 2080 is 110 hours more work less time with family. Then they claim they are going to give us an extra 44 hours of holiday time. Well 110 -44 is still jiping us 66 hours.
Calling the Fair Labor Standards Act with that name as I am learning is a joke. It is not fair. Just a hodge podge of rules that protects some people from having to work excessive hours with out compensation while not protecting others.

In India we have 48 hours a week (six days with one day off) in industrial establishments. Anytime more than that is called overtime and "THEY" are required to compensate it at double the rate.
How much time you think will be acceptable to you for being with your family? And don't express it in 'on an yearly basis'. You can't work for three or four days continuously and then sit at home for four or three days. As far as I am concerned it will be killing. I need to work evey day with proper balance for being with my family.

Actually they do plan us working 36 hours in 3 days and 48 hours in 4 days. We are to work 12.5 hours with a .5 hour lunch breath that is use it or lose it.
I think anything over 40 should be time and a half which is the "norm" in many industries.
They said we would get more time off but I stand by my math.
If they give me $181 more a month then at least I will be compensated for the extra time. This calculation is for straight time. Will be a 5% pay cut if I don't get compensated for the average of 2 more hours a week.
Had this plan not started I had aranged to have 3/4 of the saturdays off in November so I would have been working 32 hour weeks 3/4 of the time.
Many of my co-workers are just in the "I am glad I have a job" Or they are just happy to have the 4 day weekends and don't understand the math.

Working for 12 hours a day. I think it is on higher side. It decreases efficiency and people become prone to committing mistakes. Eight hours with 30 minute break for lunch and two fifteen mintues break for tea/cofee is a balanced workhour schedule.
Your maths is really complex. I have never looked at it in this manner.

Working the 3 days is not so bad but on my long week I'm totally worthless by the end of the shift.
Anyway since this is kind of a bummer topic and not "just for the fun of it" I"m starting a new thread
http://www.forumgarden.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1481 in the work and employmet section.
