I'm surprised at Thomas Becket, whom many consider a saint.

i would have thought that the Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe would have come before him.

Hi Abbey, Chonsi - I too thought Thomas Beckett was a saint and martyr. His tomb is in Canterbury Cathedral. Celebrated a day or two after Christmas, from memory. As for Bad King John - many now think the only 'bad' thing about him was 'bad press'. While his brother 'Good King Richard' bankrupted England gadding about on crusades (and with his blonde troubadour boyfriend) his little bro overhauled the country's legal system and - by standards of the time - actually tried to govern fairly

I am stunned that this has been labelled by the poll as Briton's. I would suggest that you may get a very different list from Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

My Top Five

Charles 1st

George IV

Duke of Windsor

Oswald Mosely

Tony Blair

I'm flabbergasted too chonsi...very strange. Some of the others are rather obscure which makes me wonder who they asked.

Even the replies to Thomas Becket being on the list show the poll to be very slanted. I'm one the side that consider him a saint..............thank you for the link LC!:)

It's not known for a fact that Jack The Ripper was British. Some historians believe he was in fact A merican due to Americanisms in his letters such as 'ha ha' if my memory serves me
