As you all know I have been absent from the garden for a while because of personal real life issues. But as I return I am saddened by what I see in some of the posts. I see that many people choose to be hatefull and spitefull. It bothers me that the drama and bull**** of the world cant be left at the keyboard. We all come here for a release. To forget for just one second about the dishes waiting to be done. To for a split second feel conected to people, even if we have no one.

Now before this becomes one of those threads that I am talking about I would just like to say that I write this knowing I am guilty to. I jumped to the defence of my mother in an issue that although made public was none of my busness. I said nasty things to some people. In hindsight I wish I had not done that. To those I hurt I am sorry.

I am fully aware that not everyone is going to like everyone. I understand that points of view differ. However I do not see where it does any good to bring up someones personal issues when you have a disagreement with them. So after some thought. I think we need a reminder of propper manners and ettiquite.

I am posting this as a pledge. Please do not sign this if you can not take personal responsibility to go by these guidelines.

1. I will not drag personal situations into a public forum to hurt another poster.

2. I will respect peoples oppinions on the issues(ie politics, religion, ectera). Whether or not agree, I will not digress into childish namecalling or the age old act of "running someone off"

3. I will not post or blog anything that is designed to cause a fight or stir up old issues.

4. I will be honest with my intentions. I will not disguise a thread so I can get undersomeones skin.

5. I will respect the wishes of other posters. If someone asks me not to speak to them I will abide by these wishes.

6. I will not take personal a difference of oppinion on the issues.

7. Anything that I do not want people to talk about in my personal life i will not post.

8. I will take personal responsibility for anything i say that is hurtfull or a personal attack. That said I will not do these things as i am responsible for myself.

9. I will not post the topic of private messages. I will respect the privacy of others at the garden. Incase of harassment I will only share those PM's with Admin.

I pledge to do these 9 things to keep Forum garden a nice place. If I have intentions of starting postwars i will remove myself from Forum Garden as this is not the place for it.

TenneseeGirl

if there is anything i have skipped in this pledge please let me know and i will add it.

Bravo. I happily commit to this, knowing that i may occasionally transgress, but that as long as i'm mindful of the rules, i won't stray too far.

i'd like to see every forumgardener sign up here. i'm very weary of all the personal attacks, and ****-disturbing that's been taking place of late.

while it is true that a garden is best fertilized with manure, i'm not convinced that bullsh!t is the best choice in that regard. let's stick to bat guano.

as you can see, i'm somewhat of an unrepentant ****-disturber myself, even while pledging not to be.

i wouldn't be human if i didn't have flaws. it's good to keep that in mind about your fellow forumgardeners too.

TenneseeGirl,

Welcome back! There are just a few vocal folks that are causing the dust storm. There are many many people who come here and enjoy our environment by not participating in the drama.

Here's something that I just posted in response to questions about FG's "rules":

While I really like "rule" #4, I won't be signing. When attacked, I attack back. I'm like the Blue Angels (M/C)....I won't start nothin' but if someone starts something with me, I'm not going to allow myself to be walked over, either.

I wasn't fond of the term "guidelines" either, those are set out by administration, not by members.

I'm not saying that I have been lilly white in my interaction here, God would probably strike me dead where I sit at my computer and then Bullet would be stuck buying a new PC.

The general idea is pretty good, but I won't promise or pledge anything. I've got too many nut-jobs in here after my hide to promise not to take a few layers with me. Again, when THEY come after ME.

Hi Tennesee Girl

I'm happy to agree. I come here to have a bit of fun and a nice chat. Things were getting a bit heavy. I choose not to get involved. :-4

I dont know how to say this other then it kinda makes me sad that some of the posters wont agree to a pledge about treating people nicely.... i understand defending yourself and being yourself but... i dont know maybe its just because its my pledge that i feel its awesome... meh-- all well

another one bites the dust

Awesome attempt. Just for me, I signed my "pledge" when I hit the "I Accept" tab during registration. Don't feel bad. Other pledges have failed.

Sorry for the political dig. I couldn't resist. It seemed fitting in the context. It wasn't directed at any member. (Is George Bush a member?) :o

Just to clarify guidlines can be set by anyone in the community. If the community as a whole accepts a certain rule whether or not admin enforces it it will still be a guideline. I just thought it would be a way to cool the water a little bit after some feelings have been hurt. Nothing more nothing less...
