well at the risk of being un-PC, about 98% of the time i arrested a black person they would try that shite..."you're only arresting me because i'm black"...and invariably my response was "noooooo, i'm arresting you because you just robbed the 7-11 at gunpoint" (or whatever). but it was so predictable. they all threatened to call jesse jackson. :wah: (now you're going to get me in trouble Far!)

For my sins i used to be a manager in a retail Superstore-akin to walmart in the USA

Working in a London store with a broad scots accent i was the exotic one that most pretended they couldn't understand. This was a tough store-the week before i started a pallet had mysteriously commited suicide by throwing itself on the food hall manager from the third floor in the warehouse. Most of the warehouse staff were West indian, the foreman in particular was 6'4" of body building enthusiast who took great delight in calling me jock and the rest of the staff started following suit. Knowing i had to exert authority and still get co-operation I looked up at this guy and said "if you don't call me jock i won't call you sambo" After about five seconds in which i could feel my heart pounding He burst out laughing shook me by the hand and after that we got on great and we had great fun winding up the token cockneys. racism isn't just about colour.

I would get accused of being racist if you told anyone off who happened to be black.i usually asked if they would say that to me if i was a black man which kind of got my point across.

Biggest problem I had was a muslim male in charge of hindu female staff, put a sexist untouchable in charge of brahmin hindus the resulting problems were out of this world. It had to be explained to me, I thought catholic/protestant sectarianism was bad enough. Pointing out that all english people looked the same to me and i couldn't tell hindu from muslim at least got them laughing about it.
