Kidnappers threaten to kill U.S. journalist
Jill Carroll, as she appears in a video released to Al-Jazeera.
The kidnappers of a U.S. reporter threatened to kill her unless all female Iraqi prisoners are released within 72 hours, the Arab TV network Al-Jazeera said Tuesday after it aired a video showing her condition. In a statement, Jill Carroll's family said: "Jill is an innocent journalist, and we respectfully ask that you please show her mercy and allow her to return home to her mother, sister and family."

KIDNAPPED U.S. REPORTER JILL CARROLL
Kidnappers' Deadline Passes For U.S. Reporter
POSTED: 10:53 am EST January 20, 2006
BAGHDAD, Iraq -- The deadline set by militants in Iraq threatening to kill American journalist Jill Carroll has passed, and there's no word on her fate.
Kidnappers threatened to kill her unless U.S. forces free all Iraqi women in military custody.
A U.S. official said that an Iraqi-based team of U.S. hostage-situation specialists -- including FBI agents -- has been following several leads in the search for Carroll, 28. The official said the specialists have been meeting with prominent Iraqis, particularly Sunni Arab politicians who may know the kidnappers.
The day began with an appeal from Carroll's father on Arab TV. He said his daughter is an "innocent woman," and told her captors that sparing her life would serve their cause more than her death.
A senior Iraqi official said six jailed Iraqi women are scheduled to be released by the U.S. military, but the White House said no prisoner release is imminent.
A top Sunni politician in Iraq is calling for Caroll’s release.
Carroll was on her way to interview Adnan al-Dulaimi when she was abducted in Baghdad on Jan. 7. Her translator was killed.
Al-Dulaimi is promising to work for the release of all women prisoners in Iraq, but warns that failure to set Carroll free would "undermine and hamper my efforts."
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Council on American-Islamic Relations was planning to come to Baghdad on Friday to appeal for Carroll's release. But the group remained in Jordan because it had not received guarantees of a safe escort from Baghdad airport into the city.

U.S. hostage sobbing in newly aired video
In new footage aired Monday on an Arabic-language news network, an American journalist kidnapped in Iraq urged Americans to demand the release of female prisoners in Iraq. Jill Carroll wore a head scarf and spoke English in the video, which was made on January 28, Al-Jazeera reported. Carroll was kidnapped January 7 and her captors previously threatened to kill her unless all female prisoners were freed.

Hmmmmm. I believe she is a REPORTER not a religious missionary. Just because she was reporting for a Christian magazine doesn't make her any less of a reporter.

The kidnappers of U.S. journalist Jill Carroll have set a February 26 deadline for their demands to be met or she will be killed, Alrai Television in Kuwait reported citing sources close to the kidnappers. In a video that appeared Thursday on the private TV station, Carroll said she was doing well, but urged the United States to meet her captors' demands quickly. It would be the second deadline set by her abductors, who say they want the United States to release all female prisoners in custody in Iraq.
