Vivid ones. It was the first time I had ever really paid attention to the

President, he was young and had a family and I loved him.

I was in the back of Mrs. Mounday's 6th grade class. (A group of us

studying apart from the rest of the class) We heard the phone on the

wall "ring" (one of those old interoffice thingies they had back then)

and I'll never forget the look on my teacher's face... her whole face

just turned sheet white and FELL and she started crying out "Oh NO

Oh NO" over and over again. Then they told us and made the decision

to send us all home. We were all VERY somber, some crying and sniffling.

And the tv, oh Lord the tv. Watched it for days. Walter Cronkite trying

his best to keep his composure. And the funeral, and my mom being

really upset that the horse they used for the riderless horse was dancing

all around the whole way, she thought they should have gotten a much

more sedate horse for that occasion.

When we got back to school, I had to write an essay titled "Four Dark

Days" and though I looked and looked for it when I helped my dad

pack for his move earlier this year, I couldn't find it. Surprised because

my mom kept almost everything else. I would have liked to have it, but I

don't really need it because it was such a big thing in my life... and still

is.

Years ago, there was a Seinfeld episode where they made fun of the

assassination and I never watched Seinfeld again, that's how strongly

I felt.

Paul and I went to Arlington and went to his grave. I was moved.

There are still Secret Service there guarding it.

Lest it not be forgot

That once there was a spot

That for one brief shining moment

Was known as Camelot

TAPSDay is done,

gone the sun,

From the hills,

from the lake,

From the skies.

All is well,

safely rest,

God is nigh.

Go to sleep,

peaceful sleep.

May the soldier

or sailor,

God keep.

On the land

or the deep,

Safe in sleep.

Love, good night,

Must thou go,

When the day,

And the night

Need thee so?

All is well.

Speedeth all

To their rest.

Fades the light; And afar

Goeth day,

And the stars

Shineth bright,

Fare thee well;

Day has gone,

Night is on.

Thanks and praise,

For our days,

'Neath the sun,

Neath the stars,

'Neath the sky,

As we go,

This we know,

God is nigh............................

If only they hadn't left the airport.

(a thought that would keep playing in my 8 year old mind) I will never forget this day, I will never forget the feeling of so many in grief.

I was just 17....the whole country was in shock....he was a 'faraway' hero to me. So many theories about who ? why ?

Things that stand out....the pictures of Jackies terror just after the shots were fired ...the dignity of the Kennedy children at the funeral.

I was only 6 at the time so I dont remember much.

A question? with all that has come out about him since prticularly his "colourful" love life would he have gone on to become the great man he now appears to be held ups as. I am thinking in particular of the villification of Clinton and his smoking habits as opposed to Kennedey and his non stop womanising

You would be surprised of the "sex" lives our founding fathers and past Presidents had. This vilification of Clinton was nothing but a "political coup". I am certain history will show this.

I remember this day. My parents left us children with our grandparents, they were going to Korea to bring home 2 orphan children to become my brother and sister. But a few hours later they came back and got us. I asked them where was my brother and sister, and how did they get back so fast? The airports had been shut down for security reasons, and they took off the next day. We watched the funeral with my grandmother on TV, and I always remember little Jon-Jon saluting his father as he passed by.

It was a shock to everyone.

I especially felt the pain because prior to President Kennedy, we were considered the "ugly American's" to those abroad, but with his term things had begun to change. 'We' were again PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN........

No, I don't think so. The whole "Camelot" thing was one of the biggest PR scams ever perpetrated on the American people. At that time especially, had it come out how he was behaving, it would have been political suicide and he would not have had the respect he had...Especially with everyone feeling about Jackie the way they did. Had all of that come out, and then he was shot, the reaction would have been the same though. That wasn't just about him, that was about vulnerability...much like 9/11.
