That's right! I was selected from the hundreds of thousands of teachers to try for Top 45 teachers in the country and possibly even Top Teacher in America! This is the teaching equivalent of being nominated for an Oscar!

This is my second nomination in my career which is saying something, since only one per community over 20,000 is nominated each year.

I have to go through a pretty heavy application process including several essays, so I'll post that stuff as I write it. We will know in July if I make the Honorees Cut. If I get that far, I've got a real chance at going all the way.

In addition to the $25,000 I win for myself, I also get:

1. Tenure for life in any school district in America and most of the rest of the world, except Iran and Argentina. (This includes the right to tell administrators, "Buzz off, I'm a Teacher of the Year!" without worrying about getting fired.)

2. $5,000 grant for my school.

3. National Cable Television appearance to meet the President of the U.S. during a 6-day / 7-night stay at Walt Disney World. (I'm debating on whether or not to greet President Bush with, "What's Up Mr. Prez, My homeskillet!")

4. Bragging rights over every other teacher that ever lived except other "Teacher of the Year" winners.

5. The ability to apply for a personalized license plate saying "#1 Teacher".

6. The possibility of being kidnapped by any number of South American or North Korean groups.

7. and BEST OF ALL ...Justification for my incredibly huge ego!!

Way to teach Jives!!!! You must be one of those teachers that when a sub shows up the class DOES NOT cheer. I've subbed for some of those teachers and they have the best student conduct. It is SOOOO obvious how much the students respect their teacher. In a time when I think education is failing our kids, you pop up as a shining example to other teachers. You could go on a lecture tour of the Right way to teach - I doubt you'd make much money though :-5 Again - way to teach!!!!!
