I'm contagious. No fair. I got a flu shot 12 days ago to ward off the flu, right? Saturday I came down with the worst flu I have ever had. My fingernails hurt, each hair folicle hurts, my eyeballs are popping out of my head, other than that I feel miserable. If you have read this, better go wash your hands and face.

Everyone needs to know this:
There are two kinds of flu shots,
1. A stepped-on, watered-down, weakened version of the virus. This one CAN give you the flu! Especially if you have a compromised immune system.
2. A shot of the flu proteins ONLY. This one will help you develop the antibodies needed to fight off infection, but will NOT make you sick.
Make sure to ask which one you are getting.

what is upsetting me is my doctor says the flu could kill me because of all i have been through this year....BUT ~~ nobody here has the vaccine! not the hospital, not the doctors' offices, the stupid grocery store was doing immunizations but they ran out....I CAN'T GET A FREAKING FLU SHOT!!!

I've never had a flu shot, don't intend to get one because I have only had the flu about three or four times in my life...This thing sounds totally evil Lon. Best wishes and I would hug you but it would hurt bad and then I'd get sick for sure anyway.
Jives, the vaccine info is quite interesting, never heard that before but it stands to reason.

I've been having a flu jab for 3 years now...number 2 on Jives list. I had a sore arm for a couple of days (because i didn't relax my arm muscles enough) but most jabs DON'T give you the flu......the anti-viral stuff in them is bit of a lottery though because the 'powers that be' can only guess at the type of strain that will dominate in any given year....that's my understanding anyway. I chose to have the jab because of the environment I work in and my age.
I have only had flu once in 1971. My husband and I were so ill that we didn't have christmas dinner and were laid low for the whole of the Christmas period....my kids were toddlers at that time.....funny thing was, they never even got a sniffle.

Bless you, the flu is a nasty thing. I've only had flu once when I was younger and I was so ill I missed school for 4 week I was that run down afterwards.:-1
Remember though, you might of had a flu jab but you might be ill with a different virus. Such is the nature of viruses, they are ever changing..sneaky things.

Thank you for all the kind thoughts, and yes, I am better today. There are very many different types of flu viruses and it's difficult to be innoculated against them all. I apparently picked up a different strain. Let's just hope that the current Bird Flu thing does not mutate. None of us would want to deal with that one.

Am so glad to hear that you are on the mend.
Yes, we could all hope that we don't see that bird flu.

Glad to hear you're already on the mend Lon. Know first hand what you felt for those few hours. My wife & I both got the real flu last year, & were sick for over 3 weeks. The fist week with fevers of 103+, back & forth to the doctor's office to keep getting stronger drugs. Nasty! :wah:
