Gays and the Military - from the hijacked thread.

Venus.
I'll try to answer your question. The men I have known that are Gay, or homosexual if thats what ya'll prefer to refer to them as, had a difficult time fitting into a tight knit miitary group. My observation is they had a difficult time making a decision and sticking to it. They were often more concerned with how they were percieved by fellow soldiers rather than focused on getting the job done.
When I used the term unstable I meant that they pretty much were not capable of leadership decisions. I think its important to note here that these men earned their reputations long before I ever knew they were Gay.
I know very few gay women. I work with a few currently... they are the most flighty women I have ever met. Again I see the same characteristics, but with these particular women they constantly try to prove that their way of thinking is OK and right, it again preoccupies thier time, and in my opinion they spend too much time trying to prove they are normal.
I think we ought to start another thread on this if folks want to continue discussing this. We took this thread off its intended topic, way off.
My apologies to the OP.
Well, Far, I think that your perception of homosexuals is rather stilted. I have known several, both male and female that are strong, determined individuals perfectly capable of making decisions and that couldn't be less concerned about what people thought of them.
I think that it really wasn't that long ago that many people had the same concerns about having "blacks" in the military. And the issues that were brought up then were equally ridiculous. It seems as though that "social experiment" turned out just fine.
While I am very sure that my homophobic infantry husband would agree with you on all counts (boy do I love that man anyway!) but I am sure that someone in his unit is probably gay and pulling his weight just fine.
