What caught my attention in this poem was the "chaste Diana". :wah:

That looks like a nice tomato. I had some when I was in Louisiana and they were lousy! Tasted like oil, really they did. My sister in law thought they were great but I don't trust the opinion of anyone who puts tomatoes in the fridge.

Do you suppose that was taken in Muir's Woods? That's a gorgeous place. I just copied a VHS to DVD yesterday of us in Muir's Woods.

Thank you, Odie........it's nice to be missed by a buddy. :)

Hubby and I just returned yesterday from our week in the Smokies. We had a great time and, yes, I did take some photoes. I shall be presenting them in installments because I took quite a few. :wah:

Today, I will show you Tallulah Falls, which is on the Georgia/North Carolina Border. This was our first brief stop on our journey to the mountains.

Here, we were looking down the gorge. We also saw some lovely flowers and a floppy-eared rabbit.

We visited other places, but for today, here are some scenes from the town of Cherokee, North Carolina, where we stayed for the week.

One photo is of a young Native American male dressed in full Indian costume strolling in front of our motel. (We had a room on the second floor with a balcony).

Cherokee has several of these painted bears at various places around the town.

The last picture is of a groundhog which came out in the parking lot to scrounge for food. Note the color.

You look really nice standing beside the Native American in costume.:-6

The painted bear is really quite the attraction and love the view of the river from your balcony!

That' a huge groundhog, we don't get that big here.

One of the places we usually visit is "Ghost Town in the Sky" in Maggie Valley to the east of Cherokee. It is an amusement park on the top of a mountain with a cowboy theme. We would ride a chairlift to the top of the mountain. However, it was closed this year because of this:

Rain threatens Maggie Valley mudslide area; evacuees could be away for weeks | citizen-times.com | Asheville Citizen-Times

Nothing is mentioned on the Ghost Town website about this. Hubby and I met several disappointed vacationers who came with their children just to enjoy Ghost Town.

I just visited the Ghost Town website. They finally closed it down. But I did find this link:

To go west to Tennessee from Cherokee, we have to cross over a big mountain. But, just before we start going up the road, there are a few miles of flat land. On this flat land is old homestead exhibit. We stopped there and I took a few photos of the kitchen, a buggy, and a rooster in the barn rafter. The most special pictures, to us, are the ones of the elk that were right beside the road. :)

The exhibit is really nice, reminds me of the old western movies.

and the elk........so cool to see them along the roads and trying to cross them.

In Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, there is a small Dinosaur museum. It was awsome! You get to see how big they really were...........

These were taken at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. Dollywood is a fun place. We did alot of walking around and enjoyed ourselves. No, we didn't see Dolly, but we did see her uncle Bill. He is the guy with the hat on the left in the photo of the singers.

When we keep travelling west from Pigeon Forge, we went to the Great Smokies Flea Market. A huge place.....vendors indoors and outdoors.

Gatlinburg is another beautiful little city in Tennesee. Hubby and I have visited there several times, but this was thie first time we went up to the top of the Space Needle. What a view!



The first photo shows the Space Needle in the distance and how high it goes. The other photos were taken at the top. Another visitor was kind enough to take the photo of Hubby and me. :)

While we were in Bryson City, Hubby and I stopped at a local store on Main Street by the Train Station. I was intrigued by this book, and so I bought it.

The Legend of Nance Dude by Maurice Stanley

I just finished it a few days ago. A tragic, sad story based on fact. If you ever want to get a feel for life in the mountains in the late 1800's and very early 1900's, you will enjoy this book. This took place in this area of North Carolina. Life was hard then, and folks, sometimes, had to make hard choices.

I found a few more photos. Hubby and I were catching a grand mountain view when an Amish family stopped to admire the view as well. The children had no shoes on. Great moment. :)
