APRIL FOOLS

by

Gregory K.

Someone took my toothpaste tube and filled it up with jam.

Someone changed my sandwich into fluffernut-and-ham.

Someone laced my sneakers so they tie down by my toes.

Someone changed the vacuum so it doesn't suck, it blows.

Someone poured the sugar out and filled the bowl with salt.

Someone messed up all the clocks and made it seem my fault.

For me today, I have to say, it's nervousness that rules....

Since all that happened yesterday and now it's April Fools'!

"The sun was warm but the wind was chill.

You know how it is with an April day.

When the sun is out and the wind is still,

You're one month on in the middle of May.

But if you so much as dare to speak,

a cloud come over the sunlit arch,

And wind comes off a frozen peak,

And you're two months back in the middle of March."

An April Day

from Earlier Poems

by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

(1807-1882)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When the warm sun, that brings

Seed-time and harvest, has returned again,

'T is sweet to visit the still wood, where springs

The first flower of the plain.

I love the season well,

When forest glades are teeming with bright forms,

Nor dark and many-folded clouds foretell

The coming-on of storms.

From the earth's loosened mould

The sapling draws its sustenance, and thrives;

Though stricken to the heart with winter's cold,

The drooping tree revives.

The softly-warbled song

Comes from the pleasant woods, and colored wings

Glance quick in the bright sun, that moves along

The forest openings.

When the bright sunset fills

The silver woods with light, the green slope throws

Its shadows in the hollows of the hills,

And wide the upland glows.

And when the eve is born,

In the blue lake the sky, o'er-reaching far,

Is hollowed out and the moon dips her horn,

And twinkles many a star.

Inverted in the tide

Stand the gray rocks, and trembling shadows throw,

And the fair trees look over, side by side,

And see themselves below.

Sweet April! many a thought

Is wedded unto thee, as hearts are wed;

Nor shall they fail, till, to its autumn brought,

Life's golden fruit is shed.

It means so much at Easter time

To keep in touch with friends

To wish them happiness and cheer

And joy that never ends.

This brings heartfelt greetings

Especially for you

Together with best wishes

For a happy Springtime too.

Ghost Towns of the American West

I have been to a few of the ones listed in that website, as well as a few not listed.

Several of the ones in Colorado have found new life, so to speak, and are no longer so "ghostly"

Cripple Creek has discovered gambling, as has Central City.

In Victor (Where my Wife grew up, and once home of Dalton Trumbo, and Lowell Thomas, BTW) they have a new technique to extract trace gold from the old mine tailings and have brought a new "boom" to the area.

There are true ghost towns to be found by the adventurous hiker, all over the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada.

Yes, Odie, it's got to be an accident. I put Hubby's and my information on the one I did fill out and sent back. I think the Census Bureau is being a bit over enthusiastic about the mission to get all Americans to fill one out. :wah:

“The true test of civilization is, not the census, nor the size of the cities, nor the crops, but the kind of man that the country turns out.”

Yesterday evening, my younger son called from ND confirming the fact that he is moving back down to GA where I live. Instead of airplane travel, he is riding with a buddy of his. They plan on renting an apartment and finding employment closeby. They have already been checking out the area on the internet.

I am really glad. My son needs a fresh start. Last time I saw hime, he was a teenager. Now, he is a young man. I do hope he finds happiness and success and peace of mind here. I will help him all I can, but it will really be up to him.

And he should be here next week. :) A true mother and son reunion. :-4

I pray that he and his buddy have a safe trip.

I read this today in the Obits:

Wilma Mankiller, who died April 6, 2010 at age 64 of pancreatic cancer, was a former Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and lived on the land which was allotted to her paternal grandfather, John Mankiller, just after Oklahoma became a state in 1907.

Wilma Mankiller

Sounds like a remarkable woman indeed. The hardships in her personal life did not prevent her from making a difference for her people.

April 08, 2010

Leo (7/23-8/22)

Forget about your friends -- just for the time being. At the moment, you need more than brotherly love. You need to hold hands, snuggle up and exchange compliments with someone who loves you as much as you love them. If you've already got someone like that, track them down and spend some quality time with them. If not, start looking for a new future snuggle buddy. Your friends are more than happy to excuse you for the evening.

My Horoscope for today:

April 14, 2010

Leo (7/23-8/22)

An elder you've long admired seems to have a bit of a problem with you today, and you can't quite figure out what's going on. You need to talk with them about it, but you're worried -- not so much about how they might treat you, but more about what's really going on between you. YouTube - Piano - These are the Moments/Could Not Ask For More

Lying here with you,

Listening to the rain.

Smiling just to see,

The smile upon your face.

And these are the moments,

I thank God that I'm alive.

And these are the moments,

I'll remember all my life.

I've found all I've Waited for,

And I could not ask for more.

Looking in your eyes,

Seeing all I need.

Everything you are,

Is everything to me.

And these are the moments,

I know heaven must exist.

And these are the moments,

I know all I need is this,

I have all I've waited for,

And I could not ask for more.

I could not ask for more than this time together,

I could ask for more than this time with you.

Every prayer has been answered,

Every dream I've had's come true.

Right here in this moment,

Is right where that I meant to be.

Ohh here with you, here with me.

And these are the moments,

I thank God that I'm alive.

And these are the moments,

I'll remember all my life.

I've got all I've Waited for,

And I could not ask for more.

I could not ask for more than this time together,

I could ask for more than this time with you.

Every prayer has been answered,

Every dream I've had's come true.

Right here in this moment,

Is right where that I meant to be.

Here with you, here with me.

I could not ask for more than the love you give me,

Cause it's all I've waited for.

And I could not ask for more.

And I could not ask for more.

A beautiful little song. :)
