For what it's worth (less than the paper this isn't written on) I think Oscar & Liamree both said offensive things without meaning to, and took offence when it wasn't meant. Shoot me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I think you two ladies'll get along great as soon as the dust from the first impression settles. :-6

You have no doubt posted it to raise a debate. That's the whole idea of a forum is it not, to raise debate?
I was defending your fellow countrymen as i have on many previous posts, even against MY fellow countrymen at times.
That's one thing about us BRITS. Attack is the best form of defence. Incidentally, that's why Britain will go to war with Iran without the blink of an eye. They threatened to nuke Israel.
Us BRITS don't like our ally's being threatened.
When you get to know me, because i am a BRIT, i never surrender.
I am gracious enough for leniancy, i excused your time keeping in the last war.
I can excuse anything, so i accept your apology.

Oscar,
I did not say Americans were that shallow...I was commenting on an announcer who said Americans were voting on race...again, I will tell you you've misread my comment.
Do I know the world is connected? Yes of course I do! Do I know our voting affects the world, yes. Am I a [moderator intervention: intolerable slur removed]? (How that is less offensive than Brit I'll never know) Maybe. But I am able to say I am sorry, even if my offense was unintentional...did I miss yours?

My offense was unintentional. So if you missed it, then i apologise if i offended you.
The word [moderator intervention: intolerable slur removed] is something we usually reserve for our own idiot politicians.
Trouble is, we've had to use it a heck of alot over the years so it's probably habit.
It's better than bollocks which is a word to describe what comes out of our politicians mouths.
Do you have to hand the Announcer who made the comment that Americans were voting on race? I think it's an insult to Americans everywhere. Even though, if i were an American, i would not be voting Obama, in my book, it's a slur on him also to suggest that all he has to offer is his colour. Don't you agree?

Yes Ma'am,
I agree completely! It is an insult to every American to imply that we care nothing for issues, that we would put someone into office based on how they look. Which is exactly what I was originally trying to say.

It might be a good thing to keep in mind that "[moderator intervention: intolerable slur removed]" in the UK evidently holds a different meaning than in the US. Here it means vagina. You can understand some members' concern over this word being used, I'm sure. Thanks.

We get some horrendous British t.v. progs here. Hearing uncontrollable laughter coming from my lounge a few days ago, i went out to see what was killing Mr Oscar.
Sometimes our t.v. prog researchers just don't do their jobs properly nor their research into different meanings of words between British and America. Hence the sometimes hostility.
This one was priceless. It was a prog about British famous celebritys finding themselves mugged.
They named the show "Celebrity SNATCH" Now that was funny. :wah::wah::wah:

We will be watching on sky, it'll be interesting certainly. Especially to see if i recognise any of Biden's quotes. :sneaky:
We have to remember that if anything Happens to Obama or McCain goes to that old folks home in the sky, the VP's may be running the country.
Let's see what happens. Palin gives great speeches. Biden gives great speeches but shame they usually belong to some-one else.

If she has the same policies as Obama -- No
If it's beacuse she's a woman and you think women would give Obama the vote to have Clinton as VP --- Don't get me started.

1st of all, I think Palin is doing a great job during this debate.
She's very direct - looks into the camera & at Biden, getting back to facts.
she's tough. good speaker.
2nd- today I had a Garage Sale - a older man asking @ books
I'm going thru books, run across some book about/by McCain.
I said, here - your going to vote for McCain - read about him..
The man said, that's right, I'm not stupid.
I thought, wow, fiesty, strong, I knew this, that's why I said my statement.
I said, do you want the book? he: NO, I know all I need to know. I said:
you won't find it in that book anyway..
surprising what is really said on the streets..

The 'there you go joe' line was perfect. Loved it.
Joe Biden needs to tone down the teeth; he must brush with some industrial strength toothpaste!
Where I think he looses credibility is where he praised John McCain in the past and downed Barack Obama, and now suddenly he’s the VP and for all of Obama's old programs? I don't get that.
Palin didn’t directly answer back all of Biden’s claims, I wish she had bulldogged him some on those, but it looked like the moderator moved things on. Same thing on Biden’s side, he didn’t get a chance to answer all of them back either.
Did you notice they left Palin’s mic on at the end, but quickly shut Biden’s off? Nice try to grab a under the breath sound bite!
That’s my first impression. We’ll see how I feel after the voting record truth comes out.
I think my dads going to have a hard time voting for Ron Paul, since my dad supports the war in Iraq. I’m not sure about Bob Barr. My dad was for McCain, but wasn’t certain about his stance on war if or when it was necessary. But he trusted McCain’s judgment more than anyone else on the subject.
Trust me, I pointed out Biden's chicklets to my own 18 yr old minutes into the debate.:wah:
In fact they became a joke in my household.

I thought Palin did an awesome job. She was real. Biden, that man I felt at times didn't know if he was coming or going. There's already been reports on tv about him misrepresenting himself on who voted for what. I also found it funny that Palin kept pointing out how Biden was against Obama and for McCain, on issues, before he was on the ticket with Obama.

I'd say PALIN Hands down..
I have to give more credit to the underdog - I have toooooooo.
She looked directly into the camera & to Biden
that's not easy - alot of pressure of the female unknown.. I have to go for the underdog cause she did a great job. Very direct.
Biden smiled & then got irritated... body language.. gotch ya..
Palin didn't falter - very much controlled for a Vice candidate, under alot of pressure to PERFORM..
BIDEN - has had years of experience - showed nothing exceptional and this was his time to shine.. he did't rise to the occasion..
he took his past experience for granite - didn't express enough.
interesting
I think this Debate - was much better than the Pres. Candidates Debate..

I think in either Obama or McCain we have both McCain & Obama all rolled into one.
They agree that fed gov't hasn't screwed up education enough and has to try harder.
They agree that two war fronts don't spill enough patriot blood and we need to dump some more in Darfur.
They agree that the only responsiblility the gov't can claim for the current economic "crisis" is that they didn't interfere enough (I heard a great phrase today: privatized profits with nationalized accountability).
They agree that the best fix markets is more gov't interference, not less.
They agree that gov't should give lip service to homosexual couples' legal difficulties, but an eight-letter word (marriage) is more important than some citizens' unalienable rights (pursuit of happiness).
Pick any major and most minor issues; we hear both discussing minor differences in HOW federal gov't should be in charge of it, but never a discussion about IF they should even be involved.
I think both sides of the monopolistic party have their president & vp candidates backward. I would feel more comfortable (a little) if it were a Biden vs Palin race. Doesn't matter, though. Unless more voters can be pried away from the false choice of "lesser of two evils" we citizens lose, lose big, and will continue to lose until we've lost it all.

I watched the whole debate. Both had so much to say on different issue's
The one that stood out for me was Palin saying Obama wants to offer the white flag of Surrender to Irag. In this country ----- Nooooo way Obama!!
Palin said -- Terror is in Iraq -- Don't we know it
Iran is dangerous ---- Don't we know it
Isreael is in jeopardy --- Don't we know it
Israel could be wiped off the face of the earth by Pakistan-- (Sorry Bryn, what was that you were saying about no proof of Pakistan being involved in terror??)
Palin said --- We can not allow Pakistan to obtain more nucleur arsenal
Thank God for Palin.
Biden was good though, i have to give him that. He had some good issue's on the finance crisis.
McCain will go ahead in the polls due to palin's debate.

Eh Pakistan is supposed to be an ally-although if americans keep attacking over their borders they might change their minds. Certainlt the locals on the border might decide to join with the Taliban. In case you are unaware it is likely to be british troops that will bear the brunt of that.
Palin said --- We can not allow Pakistan to obtain more nucleur arsenal
They don't need any more they already have them and that nice Mr Bush gave them F16's so they can take out the Indian Air force. Good call that, give weapons to an unstable potentially islamic fundamentalist country and **** off the neighbouring democracy that is far more likely to be on the receiving end of Pakistani nuclear missiles that Israel will ever be.
