It's great to see and hear about where everyone lives, I thought a quite a few people in the States would have to travel to shop like I do. We have about 5000 in the shire with about 2500 in the town. I live in the town area.

Every time I go to town I drive 130 kms 65 each way, I had to go to town Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, I usually only go once a week to do my shopping, I also had to drive 110 km in the other direction on Friday to take my daughter to her friend place, after already doing 130km in the other direction.



Our towns are about 90 kms apart over here in and I only have a few small shop available to me in the small town I live, so I travel all the time, it's something that you just get used to.



What's it like where you live?


I live in a village called Clapham just north of Bedford on the A6. The first thing that I noticed was that my car insurance went down. That was a definite bonus. Behind the gardens that I share with my upstairs neighbours are fields. When I first moved here, horses used to roam the field directly behind us. Three years ago, a German bought the field and a year later he erected an aviary that takes up half the field and now I enjoy the unusual sounds of exotic birds (and the native pidgeons have disappeared). the village, whilst being on the beaten track, is peaceful and (fingers crossed) there's never been any trouble here. There are four pubs in the village, plus a shopping arcade providing banking, general groceries, pharmaceutical products, travel, post office, take aways, and an Italian restaurant. There are also three garages.

Clapham was originally a farming community and there is a farm shop for purchasing locally grown produce. The village also sports one of Bedford's best golfing greens and is the last location where Glenn Miller was seen (after taking off from Thurleigh [pronounced Thurleye] airfield which is the next village down). A museum was set up in Clapham in dedication to Glenn Miller (whose music I happen to like aside from my usual preference for rock and reggae (a nostalgia thing in memory of my parents)).

The River Great Ouse runs alongside the village and apparently used to cause deep flooding after a bad winter - now, with our milder winters, it just causes a lot of patchy fog. Two of the villages's pubs sit on the river banks and makes for a lovely idyll, especially on a late summer evening (with a pint of my obligatory Abbott ale).

Bedford town is just far enough away from the Chiltern Hills so we don't get too much bad weather. Plus it is far enough into East Anglia to provide a relatively flat terrain (dulating as opposed to undulating).

Being on the A6, I have good access to most places which is handy as I work as an electrical subcontractor.

Lovely, and I am glad I moved here when I did in 1998.

Hi, Carla. Had to pop out for a friend, but I'm back now.

It is a nice place. I intend to take my camera out sometime and get some shots. For a small village, there's a lot in it and it's even got a reference in the Domesday book, although it was called Clopham apparently. Apart from that, though, I've only been able to go back to the 17th century courtesy of a local chap. It's proved interesting so far.

In between chores, I want to get out and see more of it, but I don't always have the chance.

I have attached a picture from Del Mar California a city in San Diego County. It is where my younger sister and her family live. I spend most of my off time there as well. You will see two benches for people to sit and enjoy the view. Both were put there by my family. One just behind the tree is dedicated to my mother sister Mickey, the other is dedicated to my father Andrew William Young, they are where we go and sit often.

Gosh, I miss the beaches in So. Cal. the most of all, spent many a happy summer swimming and tanning there. My favorite is Corona Del Mar and Laguna, and I went to Venice with my daughter last summer.

Anytime, racing season just ended on Labor Day. The Race track in Del Mar is in my mind one of the most beautiful in the Country.. "Where the Turf meets the Surf in Old Del Mar". :-6 :-6

I used too live in London, concrete jungle as a lot call it round here, I never saw it like that untill I moved, now I live on the lincolnshire / Cambridgeshire fens just miles and miles of flat farmland and countryside. 12 miles too the nearest town, 3 miles to the nearest village.

I live in "the sweetest place on earth" as the commercials say. Can anybody guess?? Chocolate candy is made where I live. Here's a clue...I live in a town in Pennsylvania. To the east, we have the Amish, with their farms, & horses & buggies. Lots of homemade food & goods. They make the best, sturdiest furniture! We have the mountains to the north. A river to my west, where my boyfriend has a trailer on an island & the only way to get around is by boat.

We also have Three Mile Island.

Answer to where I live... Hershey! You can smell the chocolate when you drive through. The street lamps are shaped like Hershey Kisses, too!

The one on the left is the South Downs country park. The Church on the right is where I was married and my 3 children were baptised. My son is getting married there next June. It is a Saxon church and is mentioned in the Domesday book (1086)

Ah lovely pics of Cheltenham there LC. Must say it is a lovely place, was only there last weekend shopping. They have the best little bakery that u are ever going to come across, where they sell the most delicious iced buns around the Midlands.

Oh, how pretty! I wish to go to England one day to see my step-sisters, I only get to see them when they are here. One is in Manchester, and the other is in Wales. Family photos brought back are always so beautiful of the countryside.

Here ... our little city is nice - zoned with large lots 1/2 acre or more.. some of the older houses are on 2 - 3 -5 acres - tons of trees, no sidewalks or street lights, its quaint and countrish in the midst of sprawling urban suburbia... we're about 20 miles from the far NW Chicago border but are surrounded by some of the bigger NW suburbs of Chicago... once outside our little city here its the usual bumper to bumper traffic of suburbia and too many shoppie malls... I can't wait to sell this and move to our little house on the Lake in Minnesota in a city of 500, not 15,000 and where the next closest large city is 9,000 30 miles away not 100,000 4 blocks away. Although born and raised in chicago I have never liked the city.. I'm a country girl at heart in mind and soul. I can go for days if not weeks without leaving my house where my office is or my little city here and not miss anything from the bigger cities or Chicago.. I can't remember the last time I was in chicago for anything other than company business which meant in and out as fast as I could make it.

Tosca is no longer in my posession and no he has not been processed into meaty chunks, he had an injury that meant I could no longer jump him so now he is frightening every one at a centre where disabled children and adults ride. Although he looks a beast he is actually very gentle, his only flaw as Carla so nicely put it is that he not very good with the fillies, how shall I put this, if he was a man he would be "Good with colours". So any chance I had of recouping his cost by strings of fine foals is out the window!LC before you tell me he is "Good with colours" because he has a girls name, I didn't name him he already had the handle when I got him:wah:

OK well here is my home town of Worcester, based in the Midlands and about 25 miles north of those beautiful Cheltenham pics that LC put up. It's a very historical town that has history surrounding it, dating back to very early times. Our town is famous for a few things, namely our cathedral, worcester sauce and worcester porcelain. We don't really have much countryside here, though we do have the lovely Malvern hills nearby, which are stunning. Anyway here are some pics that I threw together, so I hope they work!!

I stayed in Worcester about 17 years ago, thoroughly enjoyed myself. My friend was going over to the States to be an aupair and she had to collect her tickets, get all her homestay families details etc from Malvern.

We had a great weekend starting with a trip to a local cider factory where we sampled every type of cider they produced. I bought a bottle of cider to take home with me, but alas it didn't make it out of the car park!

When we got back to Worcester our friends we were staying with took us back to their local where we proceeded to drink cloudy cider by the pint! We got locked in that night and drank ourselves sober! Those were the days!

Yes Chris, I did the trip around Royal Worcester and duly took home a gift for my Mum.

Chris how come you did not show the cricket ground flooded. It's the stock flood picture the tabloids seem to use every year, with the benches floating around.

Is the Swan with two nicks pub still there ?

I used to go a lot years ago to the Shambles where there was a guy selling obscure Northern Soul records but waaaay befopre your time I guess.

Horse meat is like lean beef.. kidding aside its not that bad unless you know what you're eating. When I was a kid my mother bought it in frozen pound packages for the dog we had. One day we were hungry and saw this package of ground beef and decided to make burgers with it... kinda dry it was so lean but otherwise it was good. Later that night my mother is yelling at everyone about who took

the dog's food out of the freezer..

I was taught to ride when I was old enough to sit a horse alone so I have a hard time with people afraid of them, but I guess if you're not used to them, their size can be pretty scarey.

Well I was considering putting that pic up as you are right Bothwell, it does seem to be a constantly used picture in all the tabloids. Thankfully it hasn't flooded as much as it has done recently, and that's a good thing for all us lovers of cricket.



Not honestly sure on the pub you're referring to. I'm not much of a pub go-er but if my memory serves me right, I do believe that that pub is still around and well. Ah, and I still wander around the Shambles now and then, can't say I know of any guy selling Northern Soul records though hehehe

Wow Chris, what a cool place to live. I love the cathedral!

I live at the base of the Rocky Moutains, 300 miles in any direction from civilization. to the north the Rockies rise majestically, to the south, the desert and Momument Valley beckon. I love the fact that it's a two minute drive from my house to the wilderness.
