My brother had never seen google earth so when he was at my house, we got his house up for him to see. He was outraged to see his bins out. He thought they should have asked his permission before taking the photo. He was genuinly put out.

Then he spent the rest of his afternoon spying on his In laws.

When I was at the old house (it doesn't matter about the front on view of peoples' houses because there are satalite pics anyway that you can zoom in on ...) everyone thought we had an inground swimming pool ...when in actual fact it was a paper mill turn table belt thingy that I had laid out to wash to get the grease and stuff off. It was bright blue...so to everyone else it looked like we had a 20 metre inground pool on our property.

Yes, I was but... The person who googled my home was never given my address and we did not exchange cards. I am also not on Facebook with that person.

The Other member here who's house was described to me over the phone has NEVER given her address to anyone. So, It remains a mystery.

IMO I don't think moderators have anything to do with it. Nowadays, it's not surprising that anyone knows your personal details because of online resources. People can look at your info here or other people search engines and take it from there. I think you just have to tighten up your privacy by making sure that everything is secured. Privacy is something that's not guaranteed at this technology age though.

I started up tightening up mine by requesting my phone number and address to be unpublished from AT&T's directory. Are you aware that there is also a directory for mobile numbers? You might have to check on that as well.

Although this person had my home phone number, I am ex directory. I am also on the telephone preference service list. My home address Is on the mail preference list. This means I am not listed In any public directory for public view.

I have two mobile phones. Both numbers of both phones, I have never given to this person. One mobile Is a over the counter, pay as you go and not registered to any address. The other Is registered by and given to me by my political party and only members of that party have that number. It Is registered to a house In the North of England.

The person who's house was described to me has never given her home phone number to this person. She Is also ex directory and not listed.

So why don't you just cut through all the drama and ask this person where they got the info? Isn't that the simplest route?

oscar;1368390 wrote: Some time ago, a friend of mine who was a moderator on this forum Informed me whilst on the phone that they were looking at my house on google earth.... Now to do this, you need an address. They did actually have the wrong part of the road and was looking at the house where him with the moustache lives but that's not the point.

I must state quite firmly first of all that, I did not have any problems with this person finding out this Information because I trust them however, In light of a recent post on another thread, my suspicions as to where this moderator got my home address from were more or less confirmed. It could not have come from any other forum under the circumstances.

It is acceptable that the owner of a site may have a members home address but In light of not really knowing anyone on the Internet, should ordinary moderators have your personal details?

It's a tricky one I know because as moderator on an angling forum where they bitch and moan more than here, my husband needs a scanner etc to check duplicate accounts.

This once moderator even described the house that another member here lived In.

I find this quite un-nerving.

Your OP implies that the information was garnered in the mod area of this site. You've been told it was not. Your next and easiest course of action would appear to have been to ask this person directly.

I can't imagine that this person is a current friend of yours considering the casual comments you are managing to throw out here about them. Or if they are, more pity them. You start out avowing trust while implying they have abused a trust and it just continues on from there. It's almost as if you are trying to needle someone to a blow-up point.

I hope they don't bite.:guitarist

I clearly stated In my opening post that I was asking the question, weather a mod could obtain a home address from an IP address.

I clearly stated throughout the thread that I actually had no problem with this person having my home address.

Spot and Bryn posted that It was not possible.

I thanked both for the Information and other members tossed some theories around as Is what usually happens on a forum.

So your point Is?

As for abusing trust, you really do read between the lines to divert threads when It suits eh?

After questioning the integrity of a 'supposed' friend entrusted with the moderator panel access you follow up with these tidbits:

It doesn't bother me tbh Lon... That's the chance we take these days but I just wonder what sort of person would feel the need to go looking for all that about some-one they post on a forum with].... Makes you think eh?

.........What I find disturbing, Is that whilst I know this person got my home address, other members may be totally unaware that the person has theirs... If you're going to be a snoop then be an honest snoop.

Yikes! Are you saying this is how you refer to your friends that you do trust?:-2

You know, call me old fashioned, but I always believed the role of a moderator was to assist and chivvy along a forum when posts were low.

To use Jones expression, you seem to flit In and out of FG like a elderly homeless bat waiting to pounce on some morsel of scraps left over.

Your lack of Input In the early stages of this thread Is noticeable and you Input at the end of this thread Is noticeable.

You do not contribute to threads but seem to come In at the end simply to stir the pot.

Maybe, Instead of questioning what I have written, It needs to be considered weather a moderator so blatently stirring the pot, should be In her position here ?

I see absolutely no other reason for picking apart a thread and quoting single lines from paragraphs to add your own slant.

The real Irony of your late Input, Is should you actually know who i was talking about, your stance would be entirely different.

Actually, no it wouldn't. I stand for folks I think are being wronged, whether they like me or not. I really could care less if they like me, as a matter of fact. Ask anyone.

Your OP should have been a pm to Bryn or Spot, IMO. What you've done here is smear undeserved crap over several previous moderators of this site. Not one of them abused their position in the manner you imply and you should apologize for implying publicly that they might have done.

Have you bothered to ask this friend where they got your address from? Wouldn't that have been a lot less embarrassing for them than this thread?

I am sure If Spot or Bryn agreed with you, they would have closed the thread and dealt by private message.

As for smear ???

I clearly stated at the start that no accusations were being made. I clearly stated that It was an ex moderator so that dispels your theory that it Is a smear on moderators here.

If you fail to read and understand those clear statements at the beginning of the thread, then maybe your suitability as a moderator should be In question for they appear to be taking on a troll like quality once again.

If you can not read and absorb clear statements In posts, merely Interpret what you thin Is there, maybe we should leave you to yourself.

Maybe you'd like to re-read Flopstocks post, she did clearly state 'previous moderators' ; nowhere does she accuse you of smearing current moderators when you originally started the thread.

Maybe another person who merely shares the odd post from another continent should refrain from assuming they know the poster so well, they can detect a hidden agenda that has never been there In the first place.?

That's half the problem with some people, they profess to know what others are thinking without knowing them. I myself have been guilty of that In the past certainly, I think we all have but In this case, Flop Is wrong.

I haven't looked to see if it covers the UK but it's frighteningly accurate for US info.
It is!!

I have a fairly common name, and searching it on this site found every residence I have inhabited for the last 30 plus years.

I did not forward my mail on this last move, so that info does not show up,... yet.

There are so many people with my name, though, that unless you actually know where I have lived, you would have a difficult time finding me, specifically.

People can quite easily find my home address and phone number. If they really want it they'll find it. I'd rather they didn't have to work so hard. I think it's disappointing for stalkers and imagine the fun is in the chase.
