Yes it is about time some members realised that, just because a member's name is on the list of current participants (in FG they are listed at the bottom of each page), it does not necessarily mean that they are actually there - they may have gone offline but not logged off properly, and their name is left at the last place they visited ! Simple really, and nothing to get paranoiac about !

The real world is the real thing.:-6
Doesn't matter as you said, everyone has their own opinions.
Since I've been off work and in the cast, there were days I was on there all day. The thing is, I couldn't tell you if others were or not. I guess I just don't worry about what everyone else is doing. I have enough of my own crap to worry about. :wah:

It's been so long since I logged out when I left the garden, I'm not so sure I'd remember my password. :yh_rotfl

Exactly Gill !!! I run several programmes at once simply because I can then flit back to FB, the racing news etc etc at one click Instead of logging off and then having to log back on putting In pass-words again.
I do It with FG also to simply save having to log on again and put In pass-word and user name. Some-times, I could have the lap-top on the coffee table with the programmes running while I am doing other things. If I saw that a member here was logged on for hours, or Indeed on FB, I would not dream of assuming they had a sad life with nothing better to do.
Besides, I will always remember the time Galbally went down the pub leaving his pc running on FG and did not come back for 3 days.

If some-one Is to say that they notice that some people are on there all the time and have no real life.... then THEY must be on there all the time to know that others are logged on all the time

The reality is that If you are unfortunate enough to have a large family spread all over the country and hundreds of miles away from you that It Is simply Impossible to get to on a regular basis, then at least an effort Is made through FB. You can at least communicate where the travelling time between you makes It Impossible In normal circumstances. The friends and family you can get to see regually do not have to be communicated with via any net-work

well said!
sometimes I've had days when I've been on alot as well, just depends on how busy my day is.
but..there is one lady I know who posts every hour it seems, all day long, I feel sorry for her, she posts what she ate, when her hubby is coming home, even when she feeds her baby.
It gets annoying on news feed.

back to Facebook, its the same there, some don't log off on 'chat', but it doesn't mean they are on, its no biggy Gill, not sure why you say some get paranoid when they see names here?

I'm on FB. I pop on and off to see what is going on. Sometimes it is a quicker way to communicate with your circle of friends. It's all good. If someone wants to be online all day, then that is their prerogative, isn't it? Life is too short to judge others, or worry about how they live THEIR life.
If someone is so preoccupied with someone else and how they live, then THAT person has the issue, not them. There is a good chance that the person who is being judged doesn't give a rat's ass about the person who is doing the judging, KWIM?

Just seems that CB appears to be running on about people being logged on to FB and/or FG for hours, gives the impression that maybe she's being a little paranoid about it ! :-3
So why should it bother her? Why such a song and dance about it ? :yh_eyerol

Last year, a guy from the Middle East came to England to stay with our friends on a 6 month visiting visa. During that 6 months, we became close friends and we missed him when he had to go back to his country. We keep In touch on Facebook but what does CB suggest? That I pop over to Down-town Tehran to have a coffee with him and ask how the wife and kids are doing?

Wait, what? You didn't see my invisible posts on this thread? hehe
Boogylette had it right in her last sentence. However, I find amusement instead of not giving a rat's ass. The beauty of message boarding is seeing different perspectives and how people deliver that. Sometimes funny.
I agree about your post on the one who details every second of her life. I pray her electric never goes out and her computer never crashes. Amen.

nope....no invisible posts.:yh_rotfl
I don't give a rats *** either, and it is quite funny to see some reactions.:wah:
she is at home all day taking care of her baby, but c'mon posting in news feed that often really clogs it up.

The problem with making such broad statements on a public forum as:
""However, I think FB would be ideal for those who are shut-ins or otherwise disabled and not able to mingle in the real world."
This leaves you and your posts open to Criticism.
The sentence alone Is patronising, condescending and arrogant.
So, who exactly are these people not able to mingle In the real world? Would you care to elaborate?
What your sentence tells me, Is that FB Is only for those who live a pretty miserable life as 'shut-In's' as you put It. WHat exactly is a 'shut-In' ? Could you clarify?
In fact, you will find that rather than the Image of some-one who uses FB as you have portrayed on this thread, It Is actually those with extremely busy lives who tend to rely on FB.
Let me give you an example....
My Sisters waters broke. She lives over a hundred miles from me and as she was taken to hospital, her daughter, my niece, began phoning me. I was not home on my land-line and my mobile phone was switched off. She then rang the rest of the family also hundreds of miles away who did not have a clue where I was. She rang around places I was most likely to be and drew a blank. After an hour and exhausting all avenue's, she put a post on my FB wall begging any-one to contact her If they knew here I was.
Almost straight away, a neighbour of mine contacted her and told her I was at a Council meeting. The neighbours husband then drove down to get me.
That case In particular was one benefit of having your family on FB?
Could you also answer the question re: over-sea's friends on FB? What exactly do you suggest should we want to catch up?

both have message systems, use them!
some personal issues should never be brought up on either.
A few on forums like to troll, lie & harass, good god, they must be bored.:yh_ttth

Most of my friends on FB are from overseas and it's also cheaper saying something quick to family than an expensive STD call

I would think that finding 'amusement' in something you also find as requiring pity...well, I'm not sure how to interpret that?
Oh well, who am I to judge?
