How do you round up all the poor. What you may think is a poor person may be highly offended you thought they were.
You don't have to round up the poor, they tend to congregate. And the Social Service Agencies of which there are many could do the teaching. They already have resources. It's not a matter of me thinking that anyone is poor, if they are on Public Assistance they are poor. What's to offend?
!!!!!!
maybe i am taking it the wrong way which is probs why it is best for me to stay away ,,, if i could:rolleyes: it seems to me to come across as poor = stupid.
anyway ,, as i said its possible i am taking it a different way to which it is meant,, but like i said,,, other posts probably contributed to my reaction ,, whatever im sure Lon will get over it as will i.

Really? I do. Largely for reasons stated. Most are not due to "slow metabolisms" or some genetic BS excuse. They eat the wrong foods, WAY too much of it, and aren't exactly exercise warriors. And, surprise, a disproportionate # of these people also require more medical care.
When I see the fast food and crap that they have in their shopping carts, that's where I have a problem. For the same price or even less, there is within the supermarket, good nutritious meats, pork, fish, veggies and fruit. I have yet to see any fresh veggies & fruit and only occasionally hamburger (mince) or pork. They will overspend on buying packaged Beef Burritos (which I happen to like), frozen Pizza, frozen Chicken Tacos, Macaroni etc. It must be a generational thing,
No, it's a stupid thing and an attitude thing. They want what they want and can't be bothered to think about health concerns.
It really does not cost a lot of money to eat well. In fact it costs less, generally. But I'd bet my last nickel that for many of them, even if you proved that to them, they'd still buy the more expensive crap.

CARLA;1202173 wrote: I understand that you both make it sound like poor people have all the resources at their their fingertips to make good meals a kitchen, a stove, a refrigerator, a TV to watch a cooking show most don't. Some are lazy yes, but for most its not a choice and there isn't much confort in their lives be they homeless or with a roof over their heads. Sure educating them is the key to their confidence in many areas of their lives.
A (very) small percentage of poor people are homeless, and again we are talking about poor people overall, not just the homeless. Most poor people do indeed have a roof over their heads and a kitchen with a stove and fridge, at least in the U.S. In fact, most also have (sometimes rather nice and not so old) TVs, and it's not totally rare for them to have things like expensive sneakers or other clothes, a computer, cell phones, plenty of booze, and other non-necessities. I have heard this more than once from social workers and saw it more than once downtown where I used to work (granted that's just one city but I kinda doubt it's some weird exception).
PS: lol @ the fruitcake thing though

The New-York Cooking School is teaching cooking to young girls and women not able to pay for their instruction. Two courses of lessons are being given, on Monday and Wednesday evenings, in the Wilson Industrial School, No. 125 St. Mark's-place.
