I am a southern born and bred girl. a few years ago i was down in disney world with my daughter. we were sitting under an umbrella outside when the bottom fell out of the sky. i started inviting people to sit with us so they wouldnt get wet. i got alot of northern yankees telling me how much they appreciated my southern charm and hospitality. :-6

NO, I don't think that we Americans are overly sensitive. I, for one, am just fed up with all of this bashing from certain members here in FG:mad:

This used to be a lovely place to come to just to destress, and lately it has changed so much. Hummmmmmm, I wonder why:(

I've been a member here for 3 years and thought the fighting was over. Now, it's begun again....

There are people who just do not know when to stop, back off, be silent, take time out. It's difficult to tell if they insensitive to everyone else's feeling because they are just thick, or whether they act out of calculated unpleasantness. Those of you whom the cap fits -please give the rest of us a break!!

Oh for Pete's sake! (whoever pete is!) It's like when two dogs meet. They sniff each others butt to check for threat. It's a polite thing. Being a yank living amongst the brit brethren for 5 1/2 years now, you kinda figure it out. They take the pee out of you, then you take the pee right back.....then POOF! You're in the club. It's just the way it is.

(mental picture of Raven sniffing British Bum. Poor thing...)

Well, at least there seems to be agreement that we're all neck deep in the mucky stuff.

Does anyone know how bad it's going to get? I'm beginning to worry that UK plc is going to be declared bankrupt. I get the strong impression that a good many folk have already decided we are a complete basket case - Robert Peston this morning quoted an American investment guru as saying it was time to get out of Sterling and indeed get out of Britain. Whether Brown, Cameron or Clegg could make any difference to this is an open question.

Oh, and a good time to say congrats America on your new president, and to wish him and all of you the best of good fortune over the next four years.
The crowd: "Yes! We are all individuals!"

Lone voice: "I'm not."

Maybe as an american living here you might have a better perspective. It does seem impossible to discuss international politics without some american making accusations of the poster being anti-american. There was one member that accused me of being anti american because I didn't capitalise the word American every time.

If you look at the threads about british politics you would think we all hated each other but we're just used to fairly forthright discussion and expect someone making sweeping statements to be able to back them up with some facts unless they are just stating an opinion in which case calling them pillocks is a perfectly suitable expression of disagreement.

What do you do in america just not express opinions in case you get accused of being unpatriotic? Are you allowed to criticise your government or does that leave you open to attack for being unpatriotic.

Despite all of his "tom foolery" (forgive me every Tom here on FG I am not slighting you) I think Jimbo struck something here. I think if you let somebody push your buttons then you may be deemed as "over sensitive". If you just ignore them they are more likely to quit. Chonsi, KE, Jab, Jester and others I mean absolutely nothing harmful about this I love you all and I respect your feelings and I don't attest to knowing your feelings. ... I just think maybe walking away from those who you find bothersome could be your best defence. And remember not everybody is worth the effort to get angry with.

Lets face it what many of us come to FG for is the camaraderie.

We should all have the right to post our opinions here within ethical limits. It's really a shame to think many people feel they can't post or have left here because they have continually been shut down.

We are all different people and we should respect each others differences and should show the respect by allowing our differences to be shown here on FG.

Only my opinion and meant to be taken however one wishes.

PS remember words like maybe, perhaps, might, I feel, possibly etc are reflections of opinions.

The fact that members return here time and time again stands for something.

I seem to recall a similar thread going this way some time ago and as i said then, I see memebers getting over-heated and possibly speaking in the heat of the moment. If you read threads very soon after, you will see that those members are back and also posting between each member again. This shows that the members have a comfort zone within each other. Reading many threads on here but not commenting, I notice that any spats are rapidly forgotton and people move on.
