Technically,

the second world war didn't end till 1990 after the unification of Germany because everyone went to war with Germany back in 1939 onwards, and that country didn't exist again until after the Berlin wall went down in 1989 and the unification of 1990 (from 45 onwards it was two countries West and East Germany).

(I heard that on QI).
