My question is this....................Is the mud-slinging that goes on during political campaigns really necessary? Candidates need to stick to the issues and how they are going to handle them. Do they really believe that "putting down" the other candidate makes them seem a better choice? Dah!

Hubby and I went to visit his mother in the nursing home again yesterday. She was alert and talkative, but her thoughts were rambling. We just smile, answer and listen. When supper was served, she just picked at her food. We can't do much for her, just be there. She is bed-ridden for the rest of her life. The room she is in is her home. She has a bed, some pictures on the wall, a crucifix. She has a closet with nightgowns, and drawers of under-garments. She shares a TV with the other lady in the room, but she seldom watches it. This is her life now. An occasional visit from family, the routine at the nursing home, the pictures on the wall.

As I walk down the hall-ways of the home, I see other people. Some are ranting, some are sleeping, some are in wheel chairs...just sitting............waiting. There are Halloween decorations on the walls now...much like a school will decorate. An attempt to bring a festive and a change of season to the home.

Hubby and I are mostly silent on the way home. Deep in our own thoughts. Both of us remembering our mothers...as they once were.

During our weekend getaway in the mountains, we visited Ghost Town in the Sky in Maggie Valley North Carolina. It is a western town set atop a mountain. You have to ride a chair lift to the top. Saturday was the last day of the season. The day was gorgeous. We did see a bit of snow along the road, too, on the way to and from Maggie Valley. Here are some pics I took. :)

We sure did enjoy ourselves.

Just some observations.

I have noticed here on the Forum members asking questions that have just been asked a few weeks ago. Like.........your first car and the most influential person in your life. I just answered those questions recently, for petes sake. :wah:

How does Tombstone feel about the new member Touchstone? Is he having an identity crisis?

I'm sure glad the election is over..........now let it rest. The United States has a new President...........support him.

You better respond to the threads on the Home page today.......they'll be gone tomorrow.

Bbrrrrrrrrrrrr! We have a freeze warning in our area for awhile. Time to drip the pipes. If this keeps up, we may see some real snow down here.

I'm glad I took those pics ^above^ of the plants in my yard. I think they will be history.

This has been AFTR reporting..............and keeping warm and snug. ;)

Still quite mild here for us, that'll be all that sea around me keeping us warm. Snow... not seen a proper covering of snow since I was a child :)

Hey!:)

It got down into the mid-20's last night. The fields were covered in frost this morning, almost looked like light snow had fallen. We had been having such mild weather for autumn, so this is a big surprise. And winter is still a month away.

I have been seeing on the news about the wildfires in California. Lot's of property damage. A whole mobile home park destroyed in 20 minutes. People with no homes anymore. No clothes, no photographs..everything they own......gone.

This is why we count our blessings.

One of my memories of living in Germany in the '70's is the Volksmarch. For a small registration fee, you could walk leisurely through the German countryside(for around 20ks or so), stop for a snack and a drink, and when you were at the end of the walk, receive a commemorative medal or a plate. Examples of these awards are below. Sure, your feet would hurt towards the end, but other than that, it was a pleasurable experience. The weather was lovely, the cameraderie was jovial, and the scenery was beautiful.

Any one else experience a "volksmarch"?

This morning, hubby and I saw a small whirlwind pick up some leaves in the front yard and make them dance. The leaves were finally carried off up into the sky and, to other observers looking up, would have seemed like small birds flying.

Nature's small wonders. :)

Hello Jimbo and CP!

Jimbo, how are you after the "barking dog in the middle of the night" incident? Get any sleep? Unless, Barman was just having a bad dream.:-3

Hubby went to the Social Security office today to put in for his retirement. This will start for him early next year. He still plans to work part-time for awhile, as he has 2 years to go before he turns 65. I still have several ;) years to go before I hit 65, so I plan to work full-time as long as I can.

Since hubby has quit smoking, he has put on a little weight, which agrees with him as he was slim built before. Alot of that weight is going to his belly. :) He is disappointed that food does not taste better to him than it does, But he blames that on the medication he has to take daily. Anyone else going through this?

I still smoke, but I smoke 1/2 as much as I used to. I still smoke away from hubby.

I'm still doing the "gradual withdrawal thing" as opposed to "cold turkey."

Reminds me, "Happy Thanksgiving". Time to count our blessings.:):wah:

Outside today, the weather is windy, cold, rainy and a cloudy gray. The grass is a after-frost light brown. Just the kind of day to sit in front of the computer.

I was thinking about roads. To get from point A to point B, you would travel a road. Now this road had to be made for you by somebody. Before that, we were lucky to have paths to travel on. But........before that, there were no paths. Can you imagine travelling from point A to point point B without a path. You could get lost very easily, especially if you had to travel through the woods.

I was thinking of the initiation of the automobile into the environment. There were no roads and a mere path was not enough. There were probably many fatal accidents in those days. And most people were still learning how to drive and handle the automobile.

So, while we travel, my friends, let us appreciate the roads we travel on. And the signs along side that we pass. :)

Hey, Jimbo! :) Always a pleasure to see ya.;) Love your spell-check ditty.

Today, I got home from work and cranked up my computer so I could visit for awhile and OMG! my anti-virus program was not working..was not on......:-5

So I had to hustle on the net to re-download the free AVG program ASAP. So I've got it back now...............and I feel safe being on the net again. :)

I had accidently deleted the EZ Armor program a few weeks ago, and I do believe that caused the glitch.

We're doing fine! :)

Today on the way home from work, we were behind a school bus. The bus stopped and a young female high school student got off . Running up to her was a tiny white dog just wagging his tail and dancing around her. You could almost hear him bark excited, 'She's home...she's home!!" Too cute. :wah:

One of the things I miss during Christmas is being around young children. Witnessing their delight and awe and excitment has always been a joy to me. Hubby and I have kids, but they are all grown up now. My grandhildren live far away from me, and his grandchildren are teenagers now.

So, I thought I'd share some pics of children and Christmas. :) Click on Santa and the little girl.

Anyone else in the same predicament? How do you feel about it?

I read "Dear Abby' usually every day and this subject was on it yesterday. It's about women who choose not to color their hair anymore, and are proud of the silver in it. This lady says she just smiles when this is pointed out to her by others and says, "Each white hair represents a seed of wisdom in my field of knowledge." :wah: Good answer.

I stopped coloring my hair a few years ago. It is still mostly brown, but there are strands here and there of silver. I like it and hope to have more silver soon. ;)
