Once again, Thankyou for your good wishes. :-4
Patsy ((((Hugs)))
I got a shock today, a letter came for dad, to go to Christie Hospital tomorrow at 10.15 am.
The appointment is to have a PET scan, they never mentioned this at the hospital he was in
I'm so confused and so bloody scared for him and I dont even know what a cat scan is!
I'm probably scared because Christie specialises in the treatment of cancer. :-1
I dont know what to do.

Abbey, a CT scan is a non-invasive, painless procedure.
Here is a lot of info about it:
http://www.radiologyinfo.org/en/info.cf ... yct&bhcp=1
I'm sure you are scared, that's only understandable, but they may be looking just as a preventative measure at this point.
I dont know what to do.

Thanks Red, the scan he's going for is a PET scan, he's already had a cat scan.

A PET scan is a way of mapping metabolic activity and can be used to isolate the site of a seizure.

Abbey
a Pet scan is to isolate a organ & diagnose any abnormality if any.
Pet scans are not always at your regular radiology clinic - although I'm seeing more of them, but I now know what they are, never grabbed my attention before.
Your Father will be injected with a nuclear solution, which will take some time to go thru his system then the scan procedure is done - total time @ 45 minutes to a hour.
My husband has had a few Pet Scans - he's been cancer free for a year now. YEH !
To me - it sounds as if the DR's are taking a aggressive approach to the situation here - which is good - find out what your up against, if anything.
Abbey - remember this image of a shadow/spot on the lung could very well be scar tissue from several things.
Don't jump ahead of the tests - I know you worry - I did
Don't eat everything in you refrigerator - trust me didn't work - didn't make any difference in the out come - just made my A?? wide.
You know Abbey - I've had to deal with alot and I've gotten to be more settled down - this is a phase in life. Another situation to deal with/handle, try to stay calm for your own well being and for your parents.
This is so confusing for your parents and if your rattled - they're rattled.
One Day at a Time
If I can help in anyway - please PM me if your rattled

Patsy Thankyou so much, it was exactly as you described, we dont know the results yet, fingers crossed eh?
It looks like he'll have to be going back into hospital to be catheterized as he's having problems peeing again.
It's been a bloody awful day all round, I banged my ear on the car door, mums front door and mums gate!
I came home feeling so depressed and there was a beautiful bouquet of flowers waiting for me, and I burst into tears at such a kind act.
(((((((Immy))))))) Thankyou :-4

Well guys, the results are in and the diagnosis is lung cancer.
The good news is, the P.E.T scan showed it had'nt spread.
Unfortunately because of his ill health, they are unable to operate. :-1

Well Abbey - this isn't the out come we wanted to hear. so sorry
Since your Dad's health is fragile and surgery isn't a option, will your Dad have any Chemo or Radiation ? those treatments would probably be to harsh for him.
So, you enjoy your time with him- talk about wonderful times, make your Dad and Mother as comfortable as possible.
This stage in life is very stressful - as I'm dealing with my In-Laws, and my Husband is the only child. My Husband is having a terrible time.
I gave my Husband the same advise - My Husband talks to his Dad about Football etc. - its wonderful to see his Dad grin, laugh.
My Husband & his Mother are getting all financial issues in order - this is a issue you will need to address, you'll know when the time is right, if its not done already.
I hope you have support - if you need a sounding board, your welcome to PM me - and there's your Family here at FG - so when ever you need to unload, we're here.
Take care of yourself
Patsy

Sorry Guys just seen your replies.
Once again I am humbled at your good wishes and kind thoughts. :-4
Dad goes to see the oncologist next Thursday, he has been told that he is too weak for chemo but they will give him radiotherapy.
The McMillan nurse called me yesterday and told me that they may decide not to give it just yet as although he's a little frail he is'nt in any pain and his breathing is fine (steroids really are a wonder drug).
I'll keep you posted, if I ramble on, give me a nudge and tell me to pipe down. :wah:
